Job summary
The Forsyth County Government is seeking a Full-time Electrician for the Public Facilities department in Cumming, GA. You will perform skilled/semi-skilled electrical work on county buildings and support in-house technicians and contractors.
You will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, review blueprints, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and codes. Prior experience and a valid driver's license are required.

The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled/semi-skilled commercial craftsman-level work involving electrical systems and equipment for County owned buildings and to provide technical support and training to other in-house technicians and contractors.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs skilled/semi-skilled commercial craftsman-level work involving electrical systems for County buildings, equipment, and related facilities.
- Inspects, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems by utilizing electrical testing devices and checking switches and wiring for grounds and shorts or loose connections.
- Replaces or repairs existing wiring systems according to electrical code standards and safety regulations under the supervision of a licensed journeyman electrician.
- Reviews electrical blueprints and schematics.
- Repairs and replaces defective electrical parts such as wiring, fuses, outlets, switches, breakers, and sensors.
- Performs preventative maintenance on electrical systems such as servicing, lubricating, rebuilding, and fabricating new circuits, updates the equipment wiring, and replacing parts.
- Maintains tools and equipment and keeps electrical supplies and parts in order.
- Ensures that operation, repair, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems and devices are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
- Responds to work orders or work requests to conduct various installation, repair, or maintenance projects as assigned; calculates/estimates time and material needed to complete projects; plans work activities to minimize down time in offices or other work areas; conducts maintenance inspections of the electrical systems in buildings, equipment, and facilities to identify necessary repairs; reports potentially hazardous or dangerous situations to supervisor; responds to emergency situations.
- Monitors inventory levels of department equipment, tools, chemicals, supplies, and other materials; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement materials; picks up supplies as needed.
- Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with projects and work activities, which may include a utility truck, welder, torch, generator, electrical tools, ladder, or two-way radio.
- Performs general cleaning/maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking/replacing fluids, refueling vehicles, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning project work areas, and cleaning shop; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
- Follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
- Maintains accurate records of equipment maintenance activities.
- Utilizes a computer, word processing software and the intranet to research issues with electrical systems to find solutions and resources. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, logs, work requests, purchase requests, supply requests, maintenance records, diagrams, construction drawings, or other documents.
- Notifies supervisor of situations involving mechanical problems, low inventory levels, or other issues requiring attention.
- Communicates with supervisor, employees, other departments, community service workers, inmate workers, contractors/subcontractors, utility companies, vendors/suppliers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
- Maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of applicable laws/regulations; maintains an awareness of new methods, trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
- Provides electrical training to co-workers as necessary.
- Monitors and inspects electrical work performed by co-workers or contractors.
- Evaluates and advises Lead Electrician and Maintenance Manager on electrical systems and equipment issues and solutions.
- Performs special projects; responds to after-hours calls or emergency situations as needed.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners offers employees a choice of two medical plans offered by Aetna and a plan offered by Kaiser Permanente.

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners offers two dental plans from Delta Dental:
- Base $1,000 Plan
- Buy-Up $1,500 Plan
The vision plan offered by Forsyth County Board of Commissioners is administered by Aetna and will offer office visit copays for exams, as well as copays for lenses, frames, and contacts.
The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners recognizes the importance of basic life insurance for all of its employees. The Board provides term life insurance and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) protection for each full-time employee. This is a County-paid benefit.
100% paid by Forsyth County. Eligibility begins date of hire.
- 60% of weekly earnings to a maximum of $1,000.00 a week. Eligibility begins 14 days after an accident or sickness and has a benefit period of 24 weeks.
- 60% of monthly earnings to a maximum of $5,000.00 a month. Eligibility begins at 26 weeks to coordinate with the end of Short Term benefits and continues 24 months (Own Occupation).
Rates vary based on amount of coverage selected. Additional life insurance may be purchased for employee, spouse, and children.
Fully vested at five years of employment – 20% graduated vesting annually. Eligible to begin contributions immediately upon hire.
Forsyth County matches your contributions, dollar for dollar, up to 5% of your pay. Thats a 100% return on the first 5% of pay you save.
Forsyth County seed your account with 5% of your pay each year, and matches 100% of what you contribute, up to 5% of your pay.
The County continues its automatic seed contribution of 5% of pay, matches up to the first 5% of pay that you contribute, then adds a 50% match up to the next 5%.
You continue to receive a 100% County match on the first 5% of pay you contribute, and 50% on the next 5% of pay you save. But now, the automatic contribution the County makes to seed your account each year increases to 7.5% of pay.
