TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking to hire an Electrician I, II to join our team! This posting is for an electrician that will work with our District Signal Shop. If you're skilled, dedicated, and ready to take on diverse electrical tasks, we encourage you to apply!

This posting is for one (1) Electrician I or II position, depending on business need and applicants' qualifications.

Job Responsibilities

Performs skilled electrical/electronic work in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment including marine vessels. Work requires contact with departmental personnel and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.

  • Installs, maintains and performs complex repairs on electrical systems and equipment.
  • Operates standard electrical/electronic test equipment, repairs and performs preventive maintenance on general lighting, power circuits and electrical equipment.
  • Repairs and replaces sign lighting, highway illumination and security yard lighting.

Additional duties for Electrician II:

  • Calculates electrical loads, wiring sizes and lengths.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.

Electrician I: Experience: 4 years electrical experience. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Electrician II: Experience: 5 years electrical experience. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Must obtain a Class A, Commercial Driver's License within 120 days of employment.
  • We offer company sponsored CDL training with $0 upfront monetary commitment. Earn your full salary while training with lodging, transportation and per-diem provided if necessary.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Subject to extreme cold and heat; below 32 and/or above 100 degrees for more than one hour.
  • Subject to noise.
  • Talking-expressing or exchanging ideas by spoken words.
  • This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
  • Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.
Additional Conditions of Employment
  • Required to obtain a Class A, CDL within 120 days of employment.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
  • Employee may be contacted during off-duty hours to see if he/she can report to work within 1 hour for emergency situations and inclement weather events.
