Job summary

Staff Management | SMX is seeking an Electrician for a direct-hire opportunity in Chesapeake, VA. The role offers a 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. schedule and a pay range of $40 to $50 per hour, with occasional overnight and weekend shifts and comprehensive benefits.

The position requires up to 8 years of journeyman experience, a high school diploma or equivalent, and a valid electrician license. Work location is Sims Metal, Chesapeake, VA, with standard 1st shift hours.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in electrical work.
• Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documents.

Responsibilities

• Performs work individually under limited supervision or in a team environment.
• Performs work by standard operating procedures and from complex instructions and procedures.
• Undertake routine maintenance of relevant plant and equipment by scheduled requirements in a safe and efficient manner.
• Performs non-trade tasks incidental to the work.
• Follow safe work practices including but not limited to lock out/tag out and isolation techniques.
• Understands and implements quality control techniques.
• Demonstrate personal responsibility for all Safety, Health, Environment, Community, and Sustainability (SHECS) policies, procedures, and initiatives.
• Responsible for completing assigned preventative maintenance on equipment, troubleshooting and repairing machinery to minimize production loss and downtime, and participating in projects and new installations as needed
• Occasionally serves as the point of contact for electrical contractors on larger projects
• Troubleshoots 480/240/120 Vac and 230 Vdc motor control circuits, lighting, and resistive heating circuits
• Tests electrical systems and circuit continuity in wiring, equipment, and fixtures using appropriate testing devices and meters to measure conductors and components of electrical circuits
• Installs and mounts electronic controls, device panels, sensors, and components, along with associated conduit and wiring
• Interlocks wiring as necessary
• Replaces variable speed drives on equipment and repairs damaged cables
• Replaces and wires electronic components as required
• Assists in replacing motors and other electrical components
• Sizes, bends and installs new conduit runs
