Job summary

The State of Connecticut, Department of Correction invites applications for a Correctional Electrician at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, CT. You will maintain emergency generators, lighting, fire alarm systems and security infrastructure, while supervising inmates assigned to electrical tasks.

Requirements include three years of electrician experience and one year at a highly skilled level, with substitutions allowed for vocational training.

Qualifications

  • Three years of experience as an electrician.
  • One year of highly skilled level General Experience preferred.
  • Substitution: graduation from vocational/technical school may substitute for one year of General Experience.

Responsibilities

  • Repair, maintain and install electrical systems such as motors, transformers, generators, wiring and panels.
  • Inspect and troubleshoot using test instruments and replace faulty components.
  • Instruct and supervise inmates assigned to electrical maintenance duties.
  • Plan wiring layouts for new installations and perform equipment adjustments.
  • Keep records and prepare reports on maintenance activities.
  • Evaluate inmate performance and maintain security and discipline.
  • Respond to emergencies and may assist security forces as needed.
  • Operate a vehicle if required.
