Job summary

The Connecticut Department of Correction is seeking full-time maintenance staff for first shift (7:45 am–3:00 pm) to service emergency generators, lighting, gates, cell doors, cameras, and related infrastructure across facilities.

Selected candidates will complete a 14-week paid hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development in Cheshire, CT, reflecting a strong commitment to safety, security, and inmate supervision within a program-rich environment.

Qualifications

  • Maintenance responsibilities include emergency generators, lighting, gates, cell doors, surveillance systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Supervising assigned inmates and ensuring safety and security during maintenance operations.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS

Repair and maintenance of:

  • Emergency generators and emergency lighting;
  • Perimeter lighting;
  • Motorized gates;
  • Cell door control systems;
  • Surveillance cameras and recording system infrastructure;
  • Equipment in both the kitchen & laundry areas;
  • Facility and cell infrastructure wiring;
  • Record of tool inventory/control;
  • Snow and ice removal; and
  • Supervising assigned inmates.

These positions are full time on first shift, Monday through Friday, from 7:45 am until 3:00 pm.

Selected candidates will be required to attend a 14-week paid hazardous duty training at the Maloney Center for Training & Staff Development located in Cheshire, CT.

ABOUT US

The Department of Correction shall strive to be a leader in progressive correctional practices and partnered re-entry initiatives to support responsive evidence-based practices geared toward supporting reintegration and reducing recidivism under the Department's supervision. Safety and security shall be a priority component of this responsibility, coinciding with an unwavering respect for the human dignity of staff, victims, citizens and offenders.

The Carl Robinson Correctional Institution is a level 3 medium-security facility. It houses sentenced offenders and provides a great emphasis on programming and education.

The Robinson Correctional Institution offers a wide assortment of programming for inmates including intensive in-patient substance abuse treatment and a full menu of educational and vocational programming including culinary arts, machine tooling, small engine repair and community college courses.

The Osborn Correctional Institution recognizes its stewardship responsibilities to the citizens of Connecticut, as well as to the residents of Somers and Enfield. The facility is a medium security institution that houses one of the largest inmate populations of the correctional facilities in the state.

The facility operates under the Unit Management System. Under this model an assigned Unit Manager directs all the functions of their assigned units. There are 17 inmate-housing units each with its own specific institutional function. The Unit Management System enhances safety and security by limiting inmate mass movement and providing for controlled movement during the daily institutional routines.

The facility supports an inpatient medical hospital, a mental health unit, a comprehensive education program, an inpatient Addiction Services unit and one of the largest Correctional Industries Program in the state.
