Johns Manville seeks an Electrician Apprentice in McPherson, KS to inspect, maintain and repair plant machinery and systems under supervision. You will read blueprints, plan tasks, and perform varied maintenance with a focus on safety and teamwork.

Responsibilities include wiring, tools operation, and adherence to NFPA 70E; apprentices attend classes at HCC and tuition is paid by Johns Manville. Applicants should have basic Electrical knowledge and a willingness to learn PLC concepts.

The base hourly rate for this position is $33.77.

• Johns Manville McPherson, KS facility is looking for an Electrician Apprentice to join the team. The incumbent inspects, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, systems, buildings, facilities and physical structures. Must be a specialist in job classification and be able to assist, under supervision, in other job skills when it is a requisite for job completion. Working with complex blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, and from general verbal and written instructions, according to established operating procedures, performs the following duties while cooperating with all levels within the organization in support of the four Johns Manville core values: People, Passion, Performance, and Protection.

• Shift info: Monday – Friday 7 AM to 3:30 PM with adjustments as work requires

Your Day-to-Day:

Supports and promotes safe practices and environmental commitments in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.

Works in a professional manner with all employees.

Plans and lay out work assignments to accomplish them with maximum efficiency.

Prepares, reads, interprets, and follows basic blueprints, diagrams, and sketches, making all measurements and calculations necessary to complete job.

Performs all types of available maintenance and repair work that is essential to efficient operation of the plant.

Make welds, brazes, cuts, solders, and silver-solders all grades and types of metal from difficult positions and hard-to-reach locations in an efficient and workmanship-like manner.

Fills out work orders, requisitions, inspection reports, time distribution material usage, etc., and performs other clerical duties necessary to maintain proper records relative to the work performed.

Assists with inspections on machinery and equipment while in operation, diagnosing faulty operation. Periodically inspects and makes necessary adjustments or repairs to plant fire protection system, including alarms and auxiliary devices.

Uses hand and power tools of all kinds, as well as a variety of measuring and testing instruments.

Adheres to all NFPA 70E requirements including CPR certification (specific only to Electricians).

Apprentices must attend all scheduled classes at the time offered by HCC. If Apprentices must attend classes during their normal work schedule, they will be paid for the time missed in 4-, 8-, or 12-hour intervals. Travel time and expenses to and from HCC will not be reimbursed.

It is understood that an Apprentice will not be assigned unfamiliar work without supervision of another Maintenance employee or technical leader.

Classes will be taken in association with the Automation Engineer Technology track at HCC. Classes may be switched, added, or removed from the list above due to program changes at HCC, scheduling conflicts, or class availability. Johns Manville has the right to make changes to the apprentice’s schedule at its discretion. Tuition will be paid through the Johns Manville McPherson plant

Employee’s job performance must be considered in good standing.

Employee must maintain a grade point average (GPA), both for the academic term and the overall program, of at least 2.5 out of 4.0. Cost for classes during any academic term where the employee’s GPA falls below this level will not be paid. Employee will continually remain in regular full-time employment status with JM.
