Job summary

U.S. Silica is seeking an Electrician A to oversee complex electrical troubleshooting, system upgrades, and control system support at our Sparks, NV facility. This role may mentor junior electricians and ensure safe operation of plant electrical systems.

Responsibilities include diagnosing transformers, motors, relays, and wiring with emphasis on safety, quality, and reliability; installing wiring for robots and conveyors; and supporting safety trainings and audits.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required with strong safety and quality standards.
• Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environments and work in varying conditions.
• Reading and interpreting safety rules, operations and maintenance manuals.
• Familiarity with electrical schematics and diagrams; able to apply algebra/geometry basics.
• Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent is required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting and replace damaged wires.
• Test machinery and collaborate with maintenance to diagnose issues.
• Replace faulty relays, switches, motors, and sensors; service bearings and rewiring.
• Install power wiring and conduit for new equipment like robots and conveyors.
• Connect power wires and cables between machines; plan wiring layouts.
• Diagnose and replace mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components.
• Perform plant cleanup, safety audits, and data entry as needed.
• Assist safety manager with training and safety presentations.
• Operate forklifts for maintenance, production and shipping; participate in trainings.
• Adhere to National Electrical Code and safety regulations.

Job description

The Electrician A oversees complex electrical troubleshooting, system upgrades, and control system support. This role may mentor junior electricians and is responsible for ensuring the reliability and safe operation of plant electrical systems.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replace damaged or broken wires and cables.
• Test malfunctioning machinery and discuss malfunction with other maintenance workers to diagnose malfunction.
• Replace faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and position sensing devices.
• Diagnose and repair or replace faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards. Replace electric motor bearings and rewire motors.
• Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as robots, conveyors, and programmable controllers.
• Connect power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
• Plan layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
• Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
• General plant cleanup, including but not limited to, sweeping with push broom and vacuuming warehouse floors, cleaning hoppers and taking waste to the landfill, picking up trash, cutting/pulling weeds, painting with a paint brush, roller or sprayer, conducting cycle counts (physical inventory) of finished products/raw materials/supplies, filing paperwork, conducting safety audits (looking for unsafe conditions or unsafe acts) and other inspections, assist with data entry, quality analysis and equipment calibrations.
• Help safety manager prepare safety training and present training to other employees.
• Operating a forklift for the maintenance, production and shipping departments, attend extra training classes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
• High level of safety and quality.
• Ability to multi-task at a fast-pace (at times), work in outside conditions during all seasons, climb multi-levels by stairs & ladders, work from elevated platforms, use hand tools (shovel, hammer, wrenches, etc.).
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Mine Safety and Health (MSHA) Knowledge - Preferred.
• Forklift experience - Preferred.
• Computer Software - Preferred.
• Warehouse experience - Preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports. and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
• Ability to understand and effectively utilize electrical schematics and diagrams.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

• Journeyman Electrician card or equivalent certification. Certificate of Completion from an accepted electrical program.
