Job summary

Drake University is seeking a skilled Electrician to install, maintain, service and repair diverse electrical equipment for campus operations. The role requires a licensed journeyman electrician with experience in construction, troubleshooting, and energy-saving lighting modifications.

The position involves on-campus work, potential emergency call-ins, and coordination with Facilities staff. Under supervision from the Associate Director of Facilities and Chief Electrician, you will perform

Responsibilities

• 40% - Performs typical electrical maintenance functions for a university, replacing receptacles, lamps, lighting devices, relays, and protective devices.
• 20% - Performs electrical work related to remodeling and renovation, including circuit construction, meter settings, and voice/data installations.
• 5% - Sets priorities and reports progress to the manager.
• 5% - Diagnoses and repairs electrical malfunctions in equipment and controls.
• 5% - Assists manager in emergencies affecting operations (floods, outages, fire).
• 5% - Provides information for improvements and assists in estimates and material ordering.
• 5% - Performs duties in a professional manner as directed by the manager.
• 5% - May work overtime for events, including holidays and weekends.
• 5% - Performs other duties as assigned.
• 5% - Interacts with department personnel, Drake faculty, staff, and students.

Come join the Drake Facilities team! We are seeking a competent, trustworthy and reliable person to serve as Electrician. This is a position with continuous on-the-job training and opportunities for growth and development.

Job Summary:

Under the direct or indirect supervision from the Associate Director of Facilities and Chief Electrician, the Electrician will perform installation and skilled maintenance, service and repairs on diverse and complex electric equipment and accessories as required for the cost-effective operation of Drake University.

Minimum Qualifications:

• - High school diploma or equivalent.
• - Completed 3 years continuous experience as a licensed journeyman electrician and either presently holds a State of Iowa Journeyman Electricians license or can acquire such license.
• - Knowledge and ability to utilize tools and diagnostic equipment of the electrical trade associated with construction and to perform repairs and maintenance.
• - Ability to work from scaffolding, ladders, etc. and work in closed spaces.
• - Ability to read and follow blueprints as well as printed and verbal instructions.
• - Ability to operate aerial boom lift and man lift.
• - Available for emergency call-in.
• - Valid driver's license, good driving record and insurable by Drake University.

Preferred Qualifications:

• - Additional vocational training in specialized electrical and/or electrical maintenance, voice and data preferred.

Job Duties:

• 40% - Performs typical electrical maintenance functions pertinent to a university. This includes replacing receptacles, ballasts, lamps, lighting devices, contactors, relays, protective devices, and equipment. - (Essential)

This includes, but is not limited to, circuit construction and relocations, meter settings and protective devices, controls and energy saving lighting modifications as well as class 2 circuits and voice/data installations. - (Essential)

• 5% - Provides information to the manager regarding areas whichneed improvement and may assist in preparation of estimates and the ordering of materials for electrical repairs and/or construction. - (Essential)
• 5% - Performs assigned duties in a competent, courteous, and professional manner and as directed by the manager. - (Essential)
