Job summary

Johnston County Public Schools Facility Services in Smithfield, North Carolina seeks an Electrician I to perform maintenance, installation and repair of electrical systems. The role requires effective communication with supervisors, staff and the public, and adherence to safety codes and procedures.

The position is a 12-month term with a starting date immediately, reporting to Facility Services leadership. A valid NC driver's license is required, and the incumbent will work in a hands-on

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Vocational or technical school training preferred or any combination of training and two (2) or more years of experience in the maintenance, installation, and/or repair as an electrician.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, school staff, the general public, or coworkers utilizing tact, diplomacy, and collaboration.
• Knowledge of the ethical guidelines applicable to the position as outlined by professional organizations and/or federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of electrical, fire, and life safety codes, OSHA regulations, and other groups’ standards applicable to the position.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of safe and efficient use of tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of safety hazards, rules, regulations, and follows safety programs and precautions.
• Team player and role model for other employees in the organization demonstrating core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, customer focus, and valuing diversity. Demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement while promoting safety, service, stewardship, and staff development
• Ability to work on multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines with minimum supervision.

• Receives, reviews, authorizes, prioritizes, and completes work requests.
• Position performs maintenance, operations, and repair of electrical systems including locating and correcting defects.
• Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs all types of electrical circuits and equipment.
• Ability to make recommendations for repairs and recommend appropriate equipment for application.

PAY GRADE: 65 ($2735)

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment.
• Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of grasping, kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, teachers, administrators, community leaders, agency representatives, and others.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed, on call rotation, and/or alternate shifts when necessary for emergencies, adverse weather, and unforeseen circumstances.
• Must be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.
• Ability to walk up and down steps in a building, work on a ladder, and lift 35 pounds of equipment on a regular basis.
