Job summary

Zeo Energy in Virginia Beach is seeking an experienced MPU Electrician to join our residential solar construction teams around Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach. This hands-on role upgrades electrical systems to support solar installations — safely, efficiently, and with pay that rewards your skill.

You will read blueprints, perform main panel upgrades, conduit layouts, and troubleshooting, while ensuring NEC codes and safety standards are met.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of residential electrical experience, including service upgrades.
• Proficient with NEC codes related to solar, battery storage, and service panels.
• Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
• Experience with solar equipment and safety gear.
• Able to work independently or in a team; strong safety adherence.
• Valid state electrician license/journeyman preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform main panel upgrades and service changes for solar installations.
• Install, maintain, and repair residential electrical systems.
• Read technical drawings to determine layouts and wiring.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues with testing devices.

Position Overview

We’re seeking a skilled MPU Electrician to join our growing residential solar construction teams in and around Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach. This is a hands-on, high-impact role upgrading residential electrical systems to support solar energy installations — safely, efficiently, and with pay that rewards your skill.

Our MPU Electricians typically earn piece-rate pay per job , so your expertise directly increases your paycheck. Top performers consistently out-earn traditional hourly electricians. Experienced Electricians average $120,000 annually.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform Main Panel Upgrades (MPUs) or other residential service changes on homes to support solar energy systems
• Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems in residential settings
• Perform electrical wiring, conduit layout, and grounding systems following building and electrical standards and codes
• Read and interpret technical drawings such as blue prints or line diagrams to determine electrical layouts
• Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices
• Collaborate with construction teams on-site to ensure electrical systems meet project requirements and are completed in a timely manner
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site
• Accurately complete project documentation, including photos, labels, and communicate effectively with crew members, the crew lead and field leadership, and the customer

Required Skills/Abilities:

• 5+ years of residential electrical experience, including service upgrades
• Proven knowledge of NEC codes, especially related to solar, battery storage, and service panels
• Familiarity with logic controllers and their applications
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings
• Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, and speciality electrical equipment
• Valid state electrician license/journeyman preferred, but not required
• Residential solar experience strongly preferred with knowledge of PV equipment and safety equipment
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team
• Ability to follow and adhere to safety requirements
• Clean driving record and ability to drive company vehicle

Physical Requirements:

• Must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
• Ability to work in various weather conditions/extreme environments (hot attics, heat, wind, cold/icy weather, etc)
• Prolonged periods of kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing ladders
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds regularly

Schedule:

• Monday to Friday (occasional weekends as needed)
