Job summary

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Deck Electricians for work at Newport News Shipbuilding.

Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of electrical experience in Industrial, Marine, or Commercial Nuclear applications. Deck Electricians perform shipboard electrical installation work, including laying out and mounting electrical equipment and wireways, installing cable penetrations through equipment, bulkheads and decks, cable terminations, and electrical hook-up.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years electrical experience in Industrial, Marine, or Commercial Nuclear settings.
• Ability to read shipboard electrical drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages.
• Capable of working independently with proper instruction.
• Proficient with basic electrical meters and test instruments.

Responsibilities

• Lay out and mount electrical equipment and wireways.
• Install cable penetrations through equipment, bulkheads and decks.
• Terminate cables and perform electrical cut-in and hook-up.
• Read and interpret shipboard electrical drawings and schematics.

Job Location: Newport News, Virginia
Hutco Branch: Portsmouth, Virginia
Shift: All Shifts
Rate of Pay: 27.31per hour + $120.00 Per Diem for those who qualify

Pay is based on experience and qualifications.

DESCRIPTION

Hutco, Inc. is seeking experienced Deck Electricians for work at Newport News Shipbuilding. Candidates must have a minimum of three (3) years of electrical experience in Industrial, Marine, or Commercial Nuclear applications.

Deck Electricians perform shipboard electrical installation work, including laying out and mounting electrical equipment and wireways, installing cable penetrations through equipment, bulkheads and decks, cable installation, cable terminations, and electrical cut-in and hook-up work.

Candidates must be capable of reading and interpreting shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages and working independently with proper instruction.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum 3 years of electrical experience in Industrial, Marine, or Commercial Nuclear applications
• Must be able to read and interpret shipboard electrical installation drawings, wiring tables, schematics, and work packages
• Must be able to work independently with proper instruction
• Proficient in the use of basic electrical meters and test instruments, including:
  • Volt-ohm meters
  • Clamp-on ammeters
  • Insulation resistance testers
• Layout and mounting of electrical equipment and wireways
• Installation of cable penetrations through equipment, bulkheads, and decks
• Cable terminations
• Electrical cut-in and hook-up
• Proficient with basic electrician hand tools, including pliers, wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, and connector crimping tools
• Must be physically capable of climbing vertical and inclined stairs and ladders, crawling, bending, stooping, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
• Must pass the Newport News Shipbuilding Stud Shooting training class and associated vision test

REQUIRED SAFETY TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must meet applicable Newport News safety, training, medical-clearance, and PPE requirements, including:

• Confined Space training
• Hazard Communication training
• Respirator medical clearance, training, qualification, and fit testing
• Fall Protection / Full Body Harness training and qualification
• PPE training
• Hearing protection training
• Audiometric testing
• Required safety glasses and side shields
• Required Class E electrical-safe hard hat
• Required hearing protection appropriate for electrical and arc-flash hazards
• Required welding jacket, fire-retardant hood, and welding coveralls for stud shooting
• Snood and required face shield for grinding/stud shooting
• Leather and cut-resistant gloves
• Rope positioning device assembly for harness

PHYSICAL & WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

This position requires physically demanding work in an industrial shipyard environment. Candidates must be able to:

• Climb vertical and inclined stairs and ladders
• Crawl, bend, and stoop
• Work at heights
• Work in confined spaces
• Wear required respiratory and protective equipment
• Work in varying temperature and humidity conditions
• Safely perform shipboard electrical work while wearing all required PPE
