Job summary

REDPATH MINING is seeking an experienced electrician for underground mining operations. The role involves disassembling, assembling, installing, testing, troubleshooting and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices and equipment to meet specifications and regulatory standards.

The position requires the ability to diagnose and repair complex electrical systems in surface and underground environments, with an emphasis on safety and adherence to regulations.

Qualifications

• Underground mining electrician experience preferred (minimum 3 years).
• NFPA70E certification required (site location dependent).
• Must pass background check, drug screening and physical.
• Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
• Good knowledge of electrical code and regulations.
• Proficient with computers and related software.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, test and repair electrical systems including ventilation fans, dewater pumps, lighting, PLCs and control systems.
• Assist and perform repairs and maintenance to underground sub-stations.
• Hang 4/0 cable overhead.
• Fabricate electrical panels and install electrical cables.
• Install electrical apparatus.
• Read and follow written and verbal instructions safely.
• Follow maintenance schedule and ensure spares and tools are available.
• Work overtime including nights, weekends, and shift rotations.
• Comply with Redpath Core Competencies.
• Other duties as assigned.

The primary role of an electrician is to disassemble, assemble, install, test, troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and other equipment to required specifications meeting or exceeding Redpath

and government regulations/standards in surface and underground operations.

Responsibilities

• Capable of troubleshooting, diagnostics testing and interpretation, maintenance and repair of ventilation fans, underground dewater pumps, lighting, electric/hydraulic mobile equipment, PLC and communication equipment, electronics, high voltage and low voltage power and control systems and ground fault monitor systems.
• Assist and carry out repairs and maintenance to all underground sub-stations.
• Must be capable of hanging 4/0 cable overhead.
• Fabricate electrical panels and other necessary installation of electrical cables.
• Install electrical apparatus.
• Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner.
• Ensure planned maintenance is carried out as per the maintenance schedule.
• Ensure that all the spares & tools are available and serviceable.
• Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, overtime, day and nights, weekends, holidays and shift rotations.
• Compliance with Redpath Core Competencies is an essential duty and responsibility.

Education

QUALIFICATIONS

• Preferred University, college and/or trade school

Work Experience

• Preferred minimum 3 years’ electrician experience in an underground mining environment.
• If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must meet the requirements to be an eligible user of company vehicles. Must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
• Proficient in the use of computers and associated software.

Knowledge Required

• Must be capable of reading & understanding electrical drawings and schematics.
• Must have a good knowledge and understanding of the applicable electrical code and regulations.
• Must be capable of reading and interpreting basic electrical instruments and testers.
• Perform safe and timely emergency repairs to equipment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, both verbal and written.
• NFPA70E certification required (Based on site location).

Other Requirements

• Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening and physical.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
