Job summary

The Village of Mount Prospect is seeking an experienced electrician to join our public works team, responsible for electrical work at water and sewer pumping stations. The role requires diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining complex electrical systems, including SCADA interfaces and three‑phase motors.

Essential duties include aerial work, equipment troubleshooting, and related facility maintenance. Starting wage ranges from $42.21 to $57.08 per hour, with excellent benefits; a CDL Class B

Qualifications

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair complex electrical systems.
  • Experience wiring three-phase motors, generators, fans, switches, outlets, ballasts, panels and lighting fixtures.
  • SCADA system troubleshooting and control.
  • Ability to perform elevated/field work and operate heavy equipment when needed.

  • Perform non-electrical tasks including maintenance of water/sewer systems, plumbing, painting, carpentry, landscaping, and operation of heavy equipment.

Job description

The Village of Mount Prospect is accepting applications for the position of electrician. The position performs a variety of electrical tasks associated with water and sewer pumping stations.

Essential Functions

The essential job functions performed include diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance and repair of complex electrical systems associated with high voltage and low voltage electrical equipment. Includes wiring of three (3) phase electric motors, generators, fans, switches, outlets, ballasts, panels, and installation of light fixtures. Job functions also include aerial work, investigation and repair of inoperable electrical equipment, and troubleshooting SCADA control system. The position also performs a number of other non-electrical tasks including: maintenance and repair of underground water and sanitary sewer systems including the repair of water mains, valves, fire hydrants, buffalo boxes, cleaning of sewer mains, plumbing repair, painting, carpentry, pavement patching, plowing and removal of snow from streets, tree trimming, tree removals, brush chipping, landscape maintenance, civic event set-up and the operation of equipment including backhoes, front end loaders, aerial trucks, street sweepers and other equipment as assigned.

The work often requires the ability to work at heights up to 40 feet, requiring physical strength and endurance, including the ability to stand, bend, pull, push, kneel and regularly lift more than 100 lbs at any time and to withstand extended exposure to the elements. Employees may be assigned and rotated at the employer’s option to any job assignment or any shift. On call and overtime work assigned by rotation among all maintenance employees. Overtime work is mandatory.

Education Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required. Completion of electrician apprenticeship program, electrician certificate program or associates degree in related field is preferred.

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in electrical installation/repair or related facilities maintenance field.

Must possess a valid Illinois CDL Class B vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 90 days.

Starting Rate: $42.21 – $57.08 per hour, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits include IMRF pension, holiday, sick, personal and vacation time, comprehensive health plans, life insurance, and 457 retirement plan.

Any offer of employment will be conditioned upon the successful completion of a pre-employment physical, which includes a drug and alcohol screen. Probationary period of one year.

Mandatory residency requirement within one year of employment (Randall Road to Route 14 to Route 176 on the west, Route 176 on the north, Lake Michigan on the east, Lake Shore Drive and Roosevelt Road; westward to Ogden Avenue (Route 34); southwesterly and westerly to Route 59; north to its nexus with Route 64 and then westerly to a terminus at the intersection of Route 64 and Randall Road).
