Job summary

Mount Pleasant Correctional Facilities seeks a full-time Journeyman Electrician to maintain campus electrical and low voltage systems, including radios, network switches, fiber optics, and related equipment. A valid Journeyman license is required.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, installing and maintaining high and low voltage systems, inventory management, conduit installation, safe operation of ladders and lifts, and supervising incarcerated individuals during work.

Qualifications

  • Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings.
  • A standard electrician program from an accredited trade school or equivalent.
  • Three years of education and/or full-time experience with one trade school semester equivalent to six months of experience.
  • Three years of approved electrician apprenticeship program.

Job description

Mount Pleasant Correctional Facilities' mission is Helping People Become Their Best.

MPCF is looking to hire a full-time Journeyman licensed Electrician who will be responsible for maintaining the campus electrical system, as well as low voltage systems, and equipment such as radios, network switches, fiber optics, etc. Journeyman's license is required.

Typical responsibilities of an Electrician:
  • Read and interpret blueprints/schematics
  • Install/maintain high voltage systems
  • Research needed parts as well as keep an accurate inventory on hand
  • Knowledge in installation of conduit
  • Install/maintain low voltage systems
  • Use ladders, lifts, and power equipment in a safe manner
  • Maintain a neat and sanitary work environment
  • Supervise/train incarcerated individuals while work is being performed

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
  1. Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings.
  2. Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school.
  3. A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one semester of an approved trade school electrician program is equivalent to six months of full-time experience.
  4. Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program.
  5. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper which involved electrical duties.

Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 103.

Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learners Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, a valid Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained to continue employment.
