Job summary

Mount Pleasant Correctional Facilities is seeking a full-time Journeyman Electrician to maintain the campus electrical and low voltage systems, including radios, network switches, and fiber optics. A Journeyman license is required.

The role involves reading blueprints, installing conduits, and supervising incarcerated individuals during work, with emphasis on safety and efficiency in a correctional setting.

Qualifications

  • Three years of full-time electrical work experience in residential or commercial settings.
  • Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school.
  • Three years total education and/or full-time experience as described, with trade school time equivalent to six months.
  • Successful completion of an electrician apprenticeship program.
  • Current continuous experience within the state executive branch including two years as a Trades Helper with electrical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret blueprints/schematics.
  • Install and maintain high voltage systems.
  • Research needed parts and maintain inventory.
  • Knowledge of conduit installation.
  • Install and maintain low voltage systems.
  • Use ladders, lifts, and power equipment safely.

To accomplish our Mission, the person selected for this position shall be able to demonstrate emotional intelligence, leadership, adaptability and empathy while working with employees, incarcerated individuals and the public.

MPCF is looking to hire a full-time Journeyman licensed Electrician who will be responsible for maintaining the campus electrical system, as well as low voltage systems, and equipment such as radio’s, network switches, fiber optics, etc. Journeyman’s license is required.

Typical Responsibilities Of An Electrician
  • Read and interpret blueprints/schematics
  • Install/maintain high voltage systems
  • Research needed parts as well as keep an accurate inventory on hand
  • Knowledge in installation of conduit
  • Install/maintain low voltage systems
  • Use ladders, lifts, and power equipment in a safe manner
  • Maintain a neat and sanitary work environment
  • Supervise/train incarcerated individuals while work is being performed

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Three years of full-time work experience in skilled electrical work in the construction or repair of residential or commercial buildings.
  • Successful completion of a standard electrician program at an accredited trade school.
  • A total of three years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one semester of an approved trade school electrician program is equivalent to six months of full-time experience.
  • Successful completion of three years of an approved electrician apprenticeship program.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper which involved electrical duties.
Additional Qualification Requirements

Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, persons in this class may be required to obtain a license to perform electrical work in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 103.

Designated positions in this class require possession of a valid Commercial Learner's Permit upon hire. Within a timeframe determined by the appointing authority, a valid Commercial Driver's License with the required endorsements and applicable restrictions must be obtained and subsequently maintained to continue employment.
