Job summary

Thoroughgood Engineering Ltd is seeking a full-time Electrician to join our on-site team serving quarrying and processing equipment across the UK. Based in the Greater Colchester Area, you will install, maintain and repair electrical systems on conveyors, crushers and dryers, diagnosing faults and performing scheduled maintenance.

Travel to customer sites within the UK is required, with a possibility to stay away from home.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of electricity and electrical work, including safe working practices and relevant regulations.
  • Proficiency in maintenance & repair of industrial electrical systems and equipment, preferably within quarrying or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to perform effective troubleshooting and fault finding on complex electrical systems.
  • Understanding of basic electrical engineering principles related to industrial machinery and control systems.
  • Recognized electrical qualification or apprenticeship (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
  • Experience working with three-phase systems, control panels, motors, and sensors is highly beneficial.
  • Strong awareness of health and safety requirements, including lockout/tagout and risk assessment procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and technical documentation.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components on quarrying and processing equipment.
  • Diagnose electrical faults and perform troubleshooting; carry out planned and reactive maintenance.
  • Ensure all work meets safety and regulatory standards; document work performed.
  • Travel to customer sites within the UK to support urgent maintenance needs; stay away if required.

Role Description

  • 44 hours a week over 4 days (breaks paid in these hours)
