Job summary

Hensel Phelps in Bethesda, MD is seeking an Electrician I to perform electrical duties including installation, preventive maintenance, and code compliance for a specific client. The role requires ability to work nights and weekends as needed.

Candidates should hold an electrician license or certification and have 1+ year of electrician apprentice experience or an equivalent education/experience mix, with strong reading and communication skills and basic computer use.

Qualifications

  • Electrician Certification or License required.
  • 1+ year of experience as Electrician Apprentice or combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and communicate instructions.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills (internet, email).
  • Ability to learn new programs quickly.
  • Preferred: 3+ years’ experience as an electrician.
  • Prior work experience in a commercial setting.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with trouble-shooting controls and power electrical systems.
  • Remove and replace motors, starters, relays, limit switches, fuses, and primary control components.
  • Troubleshoot primary electronic systems using ladder logic, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Perform new installation wiring hookups and upgrade existing equipment.
  • Assemble, inspect, repair, and replace faulty parts and wiring on electrical devices.
  • Conduct mechanical repairs and maintenance to building systems (generators, UPS, photovoltaic systems).
  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local codes.
  • Work varied shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Job Description

The Electrician I perform electrical duties to include installation, preventative maintenance, and code compliance for a specific client(s). This position follows all Federal, State and Local laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists with trouble-shooting controls and power electrical systems
  • Removes and replaces motors, starters, relays, limit switches, fuses, and primary control components
  • Trouble-shoots primary electronic systems using ladder logic, diagrams, and schematics
  • Ability to make new installation wiring hook-ups and upgrade present equipment
  • Assemble, inspect, adjust, repair, and/or replace faulty parts and wiring on all types of electronic and electrical devices
  • Execute mechanical repairs and maintenance to building systems (including automatic transfer switches, UPS/battery storage, emergency generators, and photovoltaic systems)
  • Interpret and understand Federal, State and local code ordinances
  • Ability to work varying shifts including, nights, weekends and holidays as needed.

  • Electrician Certification or License
  • One (1+) plus years of experience as an Electrician Apprentice and/or a combination of education and experience
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and communicate instructions
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Basic computer skills such as internet, email, electronic manual, etc
  • Ability to learn new programs quickly
  • Preferred Qualifications: Three (3) plus years’ experience as an electrician
  • Prior work experience in a commercial setting.
Physical Requirements

Heavy Work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • The individual in this position will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type. The frequency of each action varies by workflow and field activity.
  • Walking - The person in this position needs to frequently move about the jobsite.
  • Sometimes operates a computer or tablet and other office machinery, such as a calculator and phone.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of topics related to office and field administration.
  • Constantly reads written communications and views mail submissions. Will also need to read blueprints and take/verify field measurements.
  • Climbing – Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps at various heights.
  • Balancing – Ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling and to walk, stand or crouch.
  • Stooping – Bending the body downward and forward by the spine at the waist.
  • Reaching – Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction for various lengths of time.
  • Grasping – Needs to apply pressure to an object with fingers and palm regularly.
  • Visual acuity and ability to operate a vehicle as certified and appropriate.
  • Occasionally exposed to high and low temperatures.
  • Frequently exposed to noisy environment and outdoor elements such as precipitation and wind.
Education

One (1+) plus years of experience as an Electrician Apprentice and/or a combination of education and experience.
