This position will repair and maintain all electrical systems of the WNC Agricultural Center complex as well as overseeing and inspecting electrical repairs and installations at other NCDA&CS facilities in western NC as requested.Â

The WNC Agricultural Center electrical responsibilities will include all the existing structures, RV sites, exterior building lighting, over 40 electrical load centers located throughout the fairgrounds, parking lot lighting, and ticket booths. Â These electrical duties will need to be accomplished at a "journeyman level" skill level which will include but not be limited to: overseeing and inspecting new construction and renovation installation, and maintenance and/or repair of all electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures.Â

This position will be responsible for keeping the facility in compliance with the new and ever-changing DOI and NCDA&CS safety policy. Â Position will also perform and/or supervise electrical repairs, maintenance, and installations at other NCDA&CS facilities in the western part of North Carolina when requested. Â When necessary, this position will assist other skilled trade positions to accomplish a task that affects the overall operation of the complex. Â This individual will be required to work some weekends on a rotating basis with other employees.

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities listed below, along with the Minimum Education and Experience requirements, are REQUIRED to qualify for this position. We will not review resumes in lieu of the Experience and Education listed on the application. Â

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Knowledge of all National, State, County and Department electrical codes and regulations.Â
  • Experience in planning and supervising construction, installation, maintenance and repair of primary and/or secondary electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Â
  • Knowledge of plumbing and carpentry skills.
  • Ability to operate and maintain a public address system.Â
  • Ability to understand specific needs of the users such as specific electrical and electronic needs, (both permanent and temporary) of trade show, horse show and specialty event promoters and vendors.
  • Ability to supervise permanent or temporary employees assigned to assist with a given project or duties.
  • Ability to plan and layout work and to develop designs from rough sketches and oral instructions.Â
  • Ability to interpret and work from sketches, blueprints, wiring and diagrams.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

MANAGEMENT PREFERENCES

  • Knowledge of the horse, livestock, and trade show/meeting/event industry is helpful.

You may qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience, either through years of education or years of directly related experience, or a combination of both.

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in the construction or repair of secondary electrical systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Based on the nature of work performed, may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.Any employment offer may be less than the maximum of the range due to salary equity with similarly situated employees or the selected candidate's related education and experience.
