Job summary

nLIGHT-DEFENSE Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our Tooling team in Longmont, CO, focusing on designing electrical test equipment, control systems, data acquisition, and optical alignment tooling for advanced HEL weapon systems. You will help develop fixtures and other support equipment for prototype and production hardware.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• 5+ years designing electrical test equipment, tooling, fixtures, or related manufacturing support equipment.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring, PCB design, and state-of-the-art tooling.
• Proficiency with Altium and SolidWorks for electrical design and tooling development.
• Familiarity with safety and environmental standards (UL, CE, IEC, RoHS).
• Ability to lead cross-functional tooling projects in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement electrical test equipment, control systems, data acquisition, optical alignment tooling, and mechanical fixtures for high-energy laser weapon systems.
• Lead electrical design efforts across quick-turn and long-duration tooling projects.
• Partner with Electrical, Software, Optical, Mechanical, Manufacturing, and Production teams to define tooling requirements and deliver production-ready solutions.
• Develop tooling for low-volume, high-precision electro-optical assemblies and production support activities.
• Ensure tooling designs comply with safety and environmental standards and support documentation and design reviews.
