Job description

Commerce City, CO: Flexicrew Technical Services (FTS) is seeking an experienced Electrical Testing Lead to perform electrical testing, troubleshooting, inspection, and evaluation of transformers, switchgear, and related medium-voltage electrical equipment. This position will work both in the shop and at customer locations, ensuring equipment is tested, documented, and repaired in accordance with quality and safety standards.

Essential Duties:
  • Perform electrical testing on transformers, switchgear, and related electrical distribution equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work instructions in both shop and field environments.
  • Complete assigned work orders, electrical testing, documentation, and reports accurately and on time.
  • Conduct internal and external evaluations of electrical equipment to identify defects, damage, wear, contamination, or other issues.
  • Perform electrical testing including:
    • Turns Ratio
    • Insulation Resistance
    • Winding Resistance
    • Power Factor
    • No-Load and Full-Load Testing
    • Hi-Pot Testing
    • Contact Resistance Testing
  • Diagnose electrical issues in transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and perform minor repairs, adjustments, or electrical connection checks as needed.
  • Communicate testing results, deficiencies, and repair recommendations to supervisors.
  • Maintain detailed testing records and prepare professional reports documenting completed work.
  • Safely operate forklifts and other industrial equipment while following established safety procedures.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel to customer locations to perform testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning services as required.
Requirements/Skills:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience testing transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, or other medium-voltage electrical equipment.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical testing procedures and equipment.
  • Experience performing Turns Ratio, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance, Power Factor, Hi-Pot, Contact Resistance, No-Load, and Full-Load testing.
  • Thorough understanding of transformer and switchgear operation, troubleshooting, and diagnostics.
  • Ability to identify electrical problems and perform minor repairs or electrical connection corrections.
  • Experience testing Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), Vacuum Fault Interrupters (VFIs), circuit breakers, or programming protective relays is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare detailed testing reports and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience using electrical test equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR/AED certifications are preferred.
  • Must successfully complete a background check, Wonderlic assessment, workers' compensation history review, and drug screen.
Travel:
  • Up to 50% travel (negotiable based on assignment).
  • Company provides hotel accommodations, fuel, travel expenses, and per diem while traveling.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work safely in both shop and field environments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and safely work around energized electrical equipment.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites as needed.
