Job description

Overview

U.S. Electrical Testing specializes in electrical acceptance testing, maintenance testing, and commissioning services for mission-critical facilities, secure environments, commercial, industrial clients, and electrical contractors. The company's capabilities include emergency response, engineering services, and turn-key installation and repair.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will lead and perform inspection, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, and start-up of low and medium voltage electrical distribution equipment, including breakers, transformers, switches, switchgear, relays, and motor control centers, both in the field and in a shop environment. A strong understanding of sophisticated electrical distribution systems and the use of complex electrical test equipment is required. You will contribute to a safe working environment and help ensure project success. Local, regional, and national travel is required; international travel is preferred.

  • Perform acceptance and maintenance testing on electrical power distribution systems and equipment.
  • Conduct insulation resistance testing, power factor testing, contact resistance testing, and other tests per NETA standards.
  • Analyze test results to assess equipment condition and recommend corrective actions.
  • Understand electrical power distribution systems, transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and relays.
  • Proficient in using electrical testing equipment such as insulation resistance testers, power factor meters, and relay test sets.
  • Knowledge of NETA standards, NFPA 70E, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Coordinate and support multiple projects, review and maintain documentation, from receipt of order to invoice.
  • Test low and medium voltage cables, transformers, switchgear, breakers, and other electrical apparatus.
  • Manage material costs by eliminating waste and implementing control measures.
  • Participate in emergency on-call duties and respond promptly to customer emergencies.
  • Promote continuous improvement and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant electrical experience with a High School Diploma/GED.
  • Valid/active U.S. Work Authorization.

Expectations of Expertise & Knowledge:

  • NETA / NICET certification (preferred) or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Strong understanding of ANSI, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, NEC, and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and manuals.
  • Experience troubleshooting protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, and switchgear.
  • Familiarity with test equipment like Doble, Omicron, Megger, Vanguard, and Fluke meters.
  • Knowledge of insulation resistance, power factor, contact resistance, and Hi-Pot testing.
  • Understanding medium and high-voltage systems (up to 500kV) and arc flash analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in various environments.
  • Commitment to safety protocols and detailed documentation.
  • Ability to mentor junior technicians.
