Job summary

Lancesoft is seeking a Grid Test Bay Application Engineer to program, test, and commission protection and control panels for generators, transformers, feeders, buses, and lines. The role involves analyzing customer specs and creating wiring and logic diagrams to meet user requirements.

The position requires developing relay setting files from protection studies, uploading configurations, and conducting comprehensive test plans. Remote work is available with periodic site activity.

Qualifications

• Experience in protection and control panel design and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to create test plans for multi-function relays and ensure protection coordination.
• Familiarity with testing methods including secondary injection tests.

Responsibilities

• Create relay setting files based on diagrams and protection studies.
• Upload setting files and configure communication including IEC 61850.
• Execute test plans using secondary injections and simulate transfer/synchronization schemes.
• Take responsibility for assigned projects with guidance from senior engineers.
• Test customized protection and control solutions in-house and at customer sites.
• Provide field support up to commissioning and training for team members.

Job description

Pay Rate Range: $55.00 -$58.00/hr USD Duration: Long term contract Location: Remote till mid to late 2027 afterwards 4 days a week to their office Description: Working Model: 100% remote until site active, will be going into office 4 days per week once site is active - Mid 2027 Travel: Domestic, 50%, possible travel to Canada - Once site is live Within first year, travel will be closer to 70% - 80% while remote Interview Process: Virtual with cameras on, 1 round, 1: 1 with manager

Grid Test Bay Application Engineer

is responsible for programming, testing and commissioning of protection and control Panels for Generator Protection, Generator Excitation, Transformer Protection, Feeder Protection, Bus Protection and Line Protection System.

Major Responsibilities:

• Analyzing customer applications/specifications and understanding the design of protection and control panel, single line diagram, schematic diagram, logic diagram, control diagram and Bill of Materials, engineering instruction, wiring drawing, wire list, wire tags to fulfill user specifications and requirements.
• Prepare test plans customized to ensure that multi function protection relays behave the way they are supposed to do in order to protect the power system installed at.
• Create relays setting files based on logic diagrams and setting included in coordination and protection study reports.
• Upload setting files and set up communication including IEC 61850.
• Execute test plans using secondary injection tests and simulate complex control schemes such as Transfer schemes, Synchronizing schemes and Auto-restoration schemes based on logic diagrams.
• Take full responsibility to assigned projects with minor support from Senior Lead Application Engineer
• Testing of customized Protection and Control solutions both in house and at customer installations
• Provide field support up to and including commissioning of new applications
• Provide training/peer check/design support to other members of the team
