Job summary

The maintenance electrician role provides plant-wide electrical coverage on a fixed shift, troubleshooting electrical/control systems, PLCs, HMIs, and networked equipment to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Good understanding of electrical concepts, standards, and technology and the ability to use common tools and accepted practices to safely work with industrial electrical/control systems.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial electrical/control systems (24 V to 480 V).

Responsibilities

  • Provide plant-wide electrical coverage for troubleshooting and repair on a fixed shift basis.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and automation control systems including PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networking.
  • Perform preventive maintenance of electrical and control system equipment.
  • Assist in identifying, investigating, and recommending solutions for repeat equipment failures.

Education

High school diploma or GED
Two-year associate’s degree in Automation/Controls, Electrical/ Electronics/ Instrumentation, Computer, or related technical field

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide plant‑wide electrical coverage for troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment on a fixed shift basis.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and automation control systems including:
    • Industrial networking – Ethernet, IP, switches, wiring methods
    • Industrial PCs – hardware, operating systems, peripherals
    • HMIs – Intouch, FactoryTalk View
    • PLCs – Rockwell Logix family, GE Series 90 and GE RXi
    • Maintenance / programming software – experience using RS Logix
    • Motor control – full voltage, VFDs (Power Flex, Parker)
    • Safety systems – Safety PLCs, relays, scanners, light curtains, mats
    • Instrumentation – pressure, flow, temperature, level, weight, speed
    • Electrical power – protective devices, power supplies, 480 V, 120 V, 24 V
    • Tools – meters, calibration/test equipment, common hand tools
  • Perform prescribed preventive maintenance of electrical and control system equipment.
  • Assist in identifying, investigating, and recommending solutions for repeat equipment failures.
  • Continuously improve technical skills through formal, informal, and hands‑on training.
  • Occasionally assist site maintenance mechanics with mechanical repairs.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to work safely and to perform complete and safe repairs.
  • Work both independently and in a team environment, applying good practices and making sound decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Perform rotating weekend call‑in coverage, overtime, and vacation coverage as assigned, with possible short‑notice overtime.
  • Perform physical tasks such as standing up to 2 hours, squatting up to 5 minutes, kneeling up to 15 minutes, walking up to ½ mile, lifting up to 8 pounds regularly and up to 35 pounds occasionally, and working safely from ladders or scissors lifts.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of manufacturing equipment.
  • Conduct inspections and tests to ensure product quality and compliance with standards.
  • Assist in implementing process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to resolve technical issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and equipment status.

Additional Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two‑year associate’s degree in Automation/Controls, Electrical/ Electronics/ Instrumentation, Computer, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience in military assignments or prior industrial work.
  • Experience working in an industrial manufacturing setting and on continuous (running) production processes.
  • Understanding and adherence to NFPA 70E and safe electrical work practices.
  • Solid PC skills and proficiency with PC applications.
  • Experience seeking sound solutions and desire to follow best practices.
  • Maintaining a customer focus and a safety mindset in everything performed.
Compensation

The annual base hourly range for this position is $32 to $33 per hour.
