Job summary

Hornbeck Offshore is seeking an Electrical Technician to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain vessel electrical systems aboard our fleet. You will work with the Lead Electrical Technician and vessel crews to ensure peak performance while complying with safety standards.

The role requires five years of electrical repair experience, strong English skills, and the ability to travel internationally; candidates must hold a valid US driver's license, TWIC, and be willing to board vessels.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including Windows, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrates efficient job planning and time scheduling.
  • Detailed understanding of electrical systems for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and board vessels.

Responsibilities

  • Works with the Lead Electrical Technician to safely repair and maintain vessel electrical equipment.
  • Schedules troubleshooting and repair with Operations Managers and vessel crews.
  • Coordinates with vendors on contract work and verifies completion to company standards.
  • Manages parts, tools, equipment, and supplies for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Instructs vessel crews on basic troubleshooting and repair procedures.
  • Identifies parts to replace, issues purchase orders, and places orders for parts or services.
  • Interprets electrical drawings and schematics to determine repair parts and procedures.
  • Operates with prescribed safety equipment and follows OSHA rules.
  • Creates Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for each job performed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Electrical Technician troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains Company vessel’s electrical systems. This electrical equipment includes but not limited to generators, switchboards, telephone systems, electronic engine controls, engine monitoring systems, lights, switches, PLC’s, VFD’s, Drive Controls, Propulsion Control systems, and vessel monitoring systems.

SCOPE OF DUTIES

The duties of the Electrical Technician shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Works with the Lead Electrical Technician to safely repair and maintain vessel electrical equipment at peak performance for maximum availability and efficiency.
  • Works with Operations Managers and vessel crews to schedule troubleshooting and repair of electrical equipment.
  • Works with vendors on contract work to verify repair is complete and to company’s satisfaction if required.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the job that is assigned by the Lead Electrical Technician. This includes procuring parts, appropriate tools, equipment, and supplies required for troubleshooting and repairing the vessel electrical equipment.
  • Instructs vessel crews on basic troubleshooting and repair procedures needed to identify and repair problems if needed.
  • Identifies parts that need to be replaced, opens work orders, issues purchase orders, and places orders for parts or repair services as necessary.
  • Interprets technical drawings, electrical schematics, and other technical documents to determine appropriate repair parts and procedures. Operates and inspects completed work to determine repair success.
  • Executes all tasks with all prescribed safety equipment in place and on person using applicable OSHA rules.
  • Creates and understands Job Safety Analysis (JSA) actions for each job performed internally as well as by vendors or vessel crew.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Five (5) years of electrical repair related experience or training.

Skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including “Windows” operating systems, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrates efficient job planning and time scheduling.
  • Detailed electrical systems understanding necessary to troubleshoot and repair vessel electrical systems.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid US driver’s license, insurance, and TWIC card. Must be possess or obtain a passport for international travel and must be willing to travel internationally.

Must be willing to board and ride vessels to increase understanding of how this role supports our business.
