We are looking for a Mechatronics / Electrical Design Engineer with experience in automotive electrical systems, wiring harness design, component integration, and vehicle communication networks. The engineer will support the development and integration of electrical and mechatronic systems, from concept and design through validation and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with 3D CAD routing, Capital Logic, Capital Harness XC, CAN/J1939 communication, and engineering validation processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Understand Mechatronics Engineering project requirements and translate them into appropriate electrical and mechanical design solutions.
- Create 3D electrical routing and clipping designs using CAD tools, considering packaging, manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.
- Design automotive electrical wiring schematics and harnesses using Capital Logic and Capital Harness XC (CHS).
- Design brackets and mounting solutions for electrical components, wiring harnesses, and cable routing/clipping.
- Perform or support Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and stress analysis for brackets and related mechanical components.
- Collaborate with suppliers on the design, development, and validation of new components.
- Develop and maintain CAN backbone architecture, feature specifications, and VMM-related documentation in accordance with SAE J1939 communication protocol.
- Support vehicle/truck diagnostics and troubleshooting of electrical and mechatronic system issues.
- Perform root cause analysis and develop robust engineering solutions for complex technical problems.
- Understand engineering processes and assess the downstream impact of design changes on manufacturing, assembly, service, quality, and other functions.
- Develop and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) for new parts, components, and design changes.
- Perform design verification and validation and document results through Design Verification Plan and Report (DVPR/DVP&R).
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in automotive or commercial vehicle electrical/mechatronics engineering.
- Hands-on experience with electrical wiring schematic and wiring harness design.
- Experience using Capital Logic and Capital Harness XC (CHS).
- Experience with 3D CAD routing, harness clipping, and electrical component packaging.
- Good understanding of CAN communication and SAE J1939 protocol.
- Experience with vehicle diagnostics and electrical troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of DFMEA and DVP&R/DVPR processes.
- Understanding of root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Ability to understand the impact of engineering changes across manufacturing, quality, assembly, and downstream functions.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in the commercial vehicle, heavy truck, or automotive industry.
- Experience designing brackets and mounting components for electrical systems.
- Experience with complete electrical system integration from design through vehicle validation.
- Familiarity with engineering change management and product development processes.
