Job summary

Stadler is seeking an Electrical Systems Engineer to design and integrate complex electrical systems for rail vehicles. You will develop on-board power distribution, control networks, and safety-related functions, coordinating with subcontractors and internal teams across international projects.

You will document concepts, specifications, and test plans, and support type tests, troubleshooting, and tender responses.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in railway, defense, aerospace or similar.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities with strong teamwork skills.
  • Business fluent in English (German is a plus).
  • Willingness to travel for training, supplier visits and testing on vehicles.
  • Experience with schematic software, MS Office, PLM and ECN systems (e.g. E3, SmarTeam).

Responsibilities

  • Design of electrical components and specification of systems, functions and interfaces per project requirements.
  • Integrate electrical equipment into rail vehicles and ensure proper vehicle functionality.
  • Prepare engineering documentation including concepts, specifications, electrical schematics, and test verifications.
  • Verify and validate systems through final approvals.
  • Provide technical support for type tests and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with customers and suppliers in an international environment.
  • Develop and optimize systems in interdisciplinary teams per standards and customer specs.
  • Support offers and tender preparations with technical input.

Job description

How You Can Make An Impact

As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the integration and design of complex electrical systems across the vehicle platform. This includes specifying and electrically integrating subcontractor systems such as entry systems, HVAC, fire protection, and lighting. You will design and develop on-board power distribution and supply networks from the main power converter to auxiliary systems, including the onboard, battery, and control power systems. Additionally, you will contribute to the control and operation architecture of the vehicle, designing critical functions and systems such as safety and assistance features, driving data recording, control technologies, train protection, and train communication networks.

Key Activities
  • Design of electrical components and specification of systems, functions and associated interfaces in compliance with project requirements
  • Integration of assigned electrical equipment and systems into rail vehicles and responsibility for their proper functioning in the vehicle
  • Preparation of engineering documentation, such as concepts, specifications, electrical schematic templates, software requirements, type test specifications and verification documents
  • Verification and validation of systems through final approval
  • Provide technical support of type tests and troubleshooting
  • Technical clarifications and cooperation with internal and external project partners (customers and suppliers) in an international environment
  • Development and optimization of systems in interdisciplinary teams in compliance with customer specifications, standards and internal requirements
  • Technical support for the preparation of offers and tenders
