Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America is seeking an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor at the Tomahawk Mill to establish and oversee maintenance schedules, manage budgets, and supervise a team of electricians. You will coordinate with engineering and production to ensure reliability and safety.

The role requires experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance, strong supervisory skills, and the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends as needed. A valid driver's license and U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and assign maintenance schedules and coordinate downtime with Production Manager.
  • Oversee maintenance budget and capital improvement recommendations.
  • Supervise Electrical Department personnel and coordinate with Engineering.
  • Ensure safety policies are understood and followed.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and maintenance crews.
  • Perform weekend/after-hours call coverage on a rotating basis.

Job description

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Establish and assign all daily, weekly, and monthly routine maintenance schedules and coordinate necessary machine downtime with the Production Manager or Superintendent.
  • Maintain inventory of parts and supplies with a focus on cost control to an established budget.
  • Schedule work, coordinate production activities, provide direct oversight of employees, approve time records, communicate and implement company policy. Engage in employee development activities, make recommendations on employee hire, promotion and disciplinary action.
  • Ensure predictive and preventive maintenance programs are accomplished and repairs are completed on a timely basis so that production and profitability objectives are met.
  • Establish and maintain maintenance budget to recommend capital improvements including assisting the Production Manager in design and installation of new equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance crew understands and is able to troubleshoot all corrugator jobs and is fully trained on mechanical and electrical repairs, equipment use, adjustments, and unique situations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and injury-free work environment by ensuring health and safety procedures are understood and executed by all employees.
  • Participate in production meeting and provide updates as needed.
  • Upgrade existing electrical systems and improve process reliability by electrical improvements.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure capital projects are installed with Maintenance concerns included.
  • Supervise the activities of all personnel assigned to the Electrical Department.
  • Issue requisitions for repair parts & supplies necessary to perform Electrical Maintenance work, which are not furnished by Central Storeroom or Engineering.
  • Direct the administration of company policy & programs pertaining to the performance, training, safety & morale of all personnel under his supervision.
  • Cooperate in the establishment & continuance of a safety program to educate the workers in safe work methods & have a comprehensive knowledge of possible safety hazards in the mill.
  • Maintain accurate & up-to-date maintenance records & information on all machinery, equipment & buildings.
  • Coordinate activities with outside contractors working.
  • Cover Instrumentation Maintenance Engineer's responsibilities as required.
  • Weekend/after-hours call coverage on a rotating basis.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3-5 years' previous experience in industry.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
  • Previous supervisory experience in coaching, training, teambuilding, performance development, and conflict resolution.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
PREFFERED QUALFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related field.
  • Experience with manufacturing safety practices.
    Project management experience.
  • If a current IAM Tomahawk Mill employee, an E&I Journeyperson with 4 years of experience at the Tomahawk Mill is required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Solid analytical, mechanical, and mathematical skills.
  • Solid working knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of maintenance of corrugated and packaging equipment.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing systems including shop floor software.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle numerous details, deadlines, and requests.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple projects and/or requests concurrently.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals throughout the company on departmental procedures, policies, practices, and requests for information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead and communicate with production team and management.
  • Previous work experience as a member of a team, or a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.
