Job summary

The Township of Plainsboro is seeking an Electrical Subcode Official to perform plan reviews, inspections, and enforcement under the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. Work is performed under the Director of Code Enforcement/Construction Official in all weather conditions with strong emphasis on customer service.

Qualified candidates hold HHS and Electrical Subcode Official licenses and may hold additional discipline licenses.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of New Jersey Uniform Construction Code and related standards.
• Excellent communication, customer service, planning and organization skills.
• Comfort with electronic devices and Township software/applications.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and enforces Electrical Subcode regulations.
• Reviews and approves plans for proposed structures under the Electrical Subcode.
• Conducts field inspections to ensure code compliance.
• Issues notices of violation or stop work orders as needed.
• Investigates complaints and coordinates with parties to resolve issues.
• Meets deadlines for review and inspections.
• Maintains cooperative relationships with the public and contractors.
• Notifies Construction Official of important situations.
• Completes required reports and attends education sessions for licenses.

DUTIES DESCRIPTION:

The Electrical Subcode Official performs plan reviews, inspections and enforcement functions for the Township. This includes examining various components to ensure compliance with State Uniform Construction Code. Employees work under the general direction of the Director of Code Enforcement/Construction Official. Work is performed in all weather conditions. Excellent customer service is essential. Employee must work effectively with the public and co-workers. Duties include but are not limited to:

• Interprets and enforces UCC electrical subcode regulations.


• Reviews and approves plans for proposed structures for conformity under the Electrical Subcode.


• Conducts field inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with applicable codes.


• Issues notices of violation, and/or stop work orders when conditions warrant and advises Construction Official.


• Investigates complaints and works with all parties involved to resolve problems.


• Complies with time limitations for review and inspections.


• Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with the public, construction personnel and associates.


• Notifies Construction Official of important and/or unusual situations.


• Completes required reports as needed.


• Attend continuing education classes and seminars as required for license(s).

REQUIREMENTS:

• HHS and Electrical Subcode Official Licenses.


• Candidates with multiple licenses in other disciplines are desired.


• Valid Driver’s License with appropriate insurance.


• Knowledge of the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, including but not limited to building, mechanical, energy and other related codes and standards.


• Excellent communication, customer service, planning and organization skills.


• Must be comfortable with use of electronic tablet, and/or other devices, programs and applications used by the Township.


• Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job.
