Job summary

CESO is seeking an Electrical Staff Designer II in Overland Park, KS to support senior staff with basic engineering design, calculations, and drawings using Revit and AutoCAD. The role emphasizes collaboration with project teams to meet time and budget targets.

Requirements include ABET-accredited degree or 5 years of relevant design experience, FE/EIT preferred, and strong knowledge of lighting, power, and telecom systems. Hybrid work and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3+ years of relevant design experience; 5 years without a degree accepted.
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and EIT license preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform basic engineering design calculations and develop system layouts and schematics.
• Create drawings and schedules using Revit, AutoCAD or equivalent software.
• Model lighting, power, and telecom systems and prepare project studies and reports.
• Coordinate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to determine scope and equipment needs.

At CESO, an Electrical Staff Designer II is proficient in basic engineering practices which helps the senior design staff execute projects by performing basic duties including technical design and calculations, document production, and all other necessary project duties to complete projects on time, within budget and consistent with industry production and care standards.

• Communication of basic design requirements effectively with internal and external design team members, contractors, and equipment sales representatives to determine project scope and feasibility.
• Begin to develop design approaches and concepts with the input and oversight from senior staff.
• Participate in client, company, and industry events to build and maintain professional relationships.
• Develop an understanding of industry standards, the technical policies and company-specific procedures for project execution.
• Perform calculations, design basic engineering system(s), and fulfill other duties as assigned through collaboration and with assistance from experienced design staff.
• Create system layouts, detail drawings, schematics, and schedules using Revit, AutoCAD or other software.
• Model lighting system luminaires (based on photometric calculations), controls, and circuiting for normal and emergency lighting.
• Model power systems circuiting and feeders for receptacles, equipment connections, and power distribution.
• Develop panel loading, service loading, voltage drop, and fault current calculations.
• Model components for telecommunication, fire alarm, security, and lighting protection systems.
• Help prepare and modify studies, plans, reports, specifications, and project designs.
• Assist project managers and design team with project coordination and facilitation between architects, contractors, other engineers, and other team members to determine project scope, feasibility, and equipment needs, and provide operating procedures and technical information.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university and 3 or more years of relevant experience is preferred; Or a minimum of 5 years of relevant design experience without a degree is required.
• Master's degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering, or similar discipline, can substitute up to 1 year of work experience.
• Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in engineering design, AEC industry, codes and standards is required.
• Completion of Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) and certification as an Engineering in Training (EIT) with a state licensure board is preferred.
• Computer skills necessary to enter daily timesheet data and use Microsoft Outlook for email correspondence.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Prior experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Visual Lighting, SKM Power Tools, and BlueBeam Revu.
