Job summary

ESCO Security seeks a Solar and Commercial Electrical Service Technician to troubleshoot, repair, commission, and maintain commercial PV systems, with additional electrical service work as needed. Prior solar experience is preferred but not required; strong troubleshooting skills will be trained on solar equipment and monitoring platforms.

  • Commercial or industrial electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Practical experience with electrical wiring, installation, maintenance, or service work.

  • Microsoft 365 experience
  • Understanding of NEC and local codes
  • Commercial photovoltaic service, installation, or commissioning experience. (preferred)
  • Experience with Ethernet, Modbus, cellular communications, or controls. (preferred)
  • Electrical apprenticeship, journeyman license, or related technical training. (preferred)
  • NFPA 70E training. (preferred)
  • Manufacturer solar-equipment certifications. (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial photovoltaic systems.
  • Diagnose issues involving modules, inverters, optimizers, rapid-shutdown equipment, combiner boxes, monitoring systems, DC wiring, and AC interconnections.
  • Perform inverter and component replacements, equipment configuration, and firmware updates.
  • Test system voltage, current, insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, and operating performance.
  • Troubleshoot Ethernet, Modbus, cellular, and other monitoring or communications systems.
  • Commission and recommission new and existing solar installations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and inspect arrays, mounting systems, wiring, and electrical equipment for damage or defects.
  • Investigate system alarms, communication failures, outages, and production deficiencies.
  • Coordinate technical support, warranty claims, and replacement equipment with manufacturers.
  • Review drawings, one-line diagrams, test results, and commissioning documentation.
  • Recommend and complete corrective actions based on field findings.

Description

Responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, commissioning, and maintaining commercial solar photovoltaic systems. Solar service will be the primary focus of this position, with additional commercial electrical service work performed as needed. Previous solar experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong commercial electrical troubleshooting skills will be trained on solar equipment, monitoring platforms, testing procedures, and system operation.

Tasks / Duties / Responsibilities
Solar Service
  • Troubleshoot and repair commercial photovoltaic systems.
  • Diagnose issues involving modules, inverters, optimizers, rapid-shutdown equipment, combiner boxes, monitoring systems, DC wiring, and AC interconnections.
  • Perform inverter and component replacements, equipment configuration, and firmware updates.

Commercial Electrical Service
  • Troubleshoot, repair, install, and modify commercial electrical systems.
  • Service panels, switchboards, transformers, disconnects, breakers, lighting, receptacles, branch circuits, feeders, and control wiring.
  • Perform insulation-resistance testing, thermal imaging, voltage and current measurements, and other electrical evaluations.
  • Identify failed components, loose connections, overloaded circuits, damaged conductors, and phase imbalances.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, panel schedules, and specifications.
  • Coordinate shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and system restoration with customers.
  • Complete work safely while minimizing disruption to customer operations.
Documentation and Customer Service
  • Complete service reports, work orders, test records, and site photographs.
  • Document findings, troubleshooting steps, repairs, materials used, and outstanding issues.
  • Provide customers and internal teams with clear updates and repair recommendations.
  • Escalate safety concerns, technical issues, scope changes, and material needs.
  • Assist with work-order, project, commissioning, and warranty closeout.
Requirements
Skills / Abilities / Attributes
  • Ability to use multimeters, clamp meters, insulation-resistance testers, and voltage detectors.
  • Ability to read electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and local electrical requirements.
  • Strong safety awareness, problem-solving ability, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with inverters, optimizers, rapid-shutdown equipment, monitoring systems, and DC circuits.
  • Strong written, verbal, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to travel, work on rooftops, and occasionally work out of town or after hours.
Education, Experience, and/or Certification Requirements
  • Commercial or industrial electrical troubleshooting experience.
  • Practical experience with electrical wiring, installation, maintenance, or service work.
