Job summary

Hitachi Energy USA Inc in Jefferson City, Missouri is seeking an Electrical R&D Engineer to join the Liquid-Filled Distribution Transformers team. You will help shape next-generation transformer technology, focusing on reliability, sustainability, and performance in power distribution worldwide.

You’ll collaborate with a global network of engineers, design and test prototypes, and contribute to design rules and IP discussions.

Qualifications

Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
2+ years of electrical design experience, ideally with transformers.
R&D experience in an industrial environment is beneficial.
Knowledge of magnetic, dielectric, or thermal design.
FEM or 2D circuit-simulation tools knowledge is advantageous.
Strong communication skills and a creative, solution‑oriented mindset.

Responsibilities

Contribute inventive electrical design ideas to R&D projects
Lead or support initiatives aligned with time, cost, and quality objectives
Coordinate prototype manufacturing and testing activities
Design and execute experiments to validate technical solutions
Document project progress and develop design rules from findings
Participate in intellectual property discussions and risk evaluations
Provide technical support to factories, marketing teams, and customers
Collaborate with global R&D peers to optimize electrical designs
Support cost-out initiatives and design portfolio development for the South Boston location
