This position is in a civil service competitive class that is subject to examination. Position is only open to current City employees with permanent NYC civil service status as Supervisor of Electrical Installations and Maintenance or permanent in an equivalent title that is eligible for transfer under 6.1.9 to Supervisor of Electrical Installations and Maintenance. This position is open to qualified persons with a disability who are eligible for the 55-a program. Description:

Position Summary: The Office of Food and Nutrition Services (OFNS) employs a workforce of over 8,000 employees in +1,500 locations to prepare and serve New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) students over 150 million meals annually. To carry out this work OFNS annually uses +$300M of equipment, food, supplies and services purchased under contract, and + $40M of federally supplied food commodities.

The Electrical Project Manager is responsible for the installations and inspections of electrical feeder lines for heavy duty kitchen equipment within OFNS Kitchens citywide. They also conduct site visits, verify power availability, develop and review scope of work with contractors, plan and schedule installation and repairs to kitchen equipment and their related power circuits, and verify that the work completed according to NYCPS standards, specifications and building codes in the most economical and efficient manner. Performs related work.

Reports to: Director, Field and Equipment Services.

Direct Reports: N/A

Key Relationships: Relationships will be fostered with School Facilities, The Gordian Group, custodial engineers, building managers, school food administrators and contractual vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the contractual agreements with private contractors and vendors to implement necessary electrical work, including the installation, alteration and repair of electrical equipment in schools and leased sites.
  • Ensures that all electrical work is performed in compliance with The New York City School Construction Authority standards and specifications and The New York City Department of Buildings codes.
  • Reviews technical data and designs.
  • Confers with contractors regarding more difficult repair jobs to ensure compliance with contract requirements, specifications, acceptability of material and adherence to plans.
  • Prepares scope of work for power circuits related to kitchen equipment.
  • Performs preliminary inspections prior to project start date.
  • Performs post-installation inspection of work completed by vendors upon project completion.
  • Oversees electrical projects including installation, alteration and repair of electric feeder lines, and ensures that vendors follow procedures related to contract specifications.
  • Approves Contractor Application for Payment (CAP) following job inspection.
  • Confers with contractors regarding interpretation of specifications, acceptability of materials and safety guidelines.
  • Provides technical guidance in the field of electrical maintenance and installation to OFNS. Serves as an expert on electrical topics.

Qualification Requirements:

Minimum

  • Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in the installation, repair and/or inspection of electrical equipment, at least two (2) years of which must have involved a large building or facility of at least 100,000 square feet or a number of buildings, of at least three (3) stories each adding up to a total of at least 100,000 square feet; or
  • A combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the four years of experience required in “1” above. Accredited college or university education leading to a baccalaureate degree in engineering or engineering technology may be substituted for the required experience in the installation, repair and/or inspection of buildings and/or facilities on the basis of 5 semester credits for two months of experience up to a maximum of 60 semester credits. However, to qualify, candidates must have at least two (2) years of the required experience in the installation, repair and/or inspection of electrical equipment in a building or facility of at least 100,000 square feet or a number of buildings of at least three (3) stories, adding up to a total of at least 100,000 square feet.

Note: To be assigned to Assignment Level II personnel must have an additional one year of satisfactory full-time experience in the installation and inspection of electrical equipment.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of Job Order Contract (JOC).
  • Knowledge of DOB/BEC applications filing system.
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring for fire suppression systems.
  • A motor vehicle driver’s license valid in the State of New York.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 applications.

$ 87,701 - $96,471 (Incumbent - 2 years of full-time continuous City service )

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
