Job summary

LPA, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Project Manager in San Diego, CA to lead electrical design within our integrated team of architects, engineers, and master planners.

You’ll oversee drawings from schematic through construction, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and ensure NEC and energy code compliance. The role emphasizes value engineering, cost estimation, and effective communication with clients and internal teams across a variety of project types, including laboratories and healthcare

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Active PE license or ability to obtain PE license.
• 10+ years of electrical engineering experience focusing on building power and lighting systems.
• Strong NEC and energy code knowledge; able to locate tables and requirements efficiently.
• Proven ability to perform value engineering and develop high-level construction cost estimates.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to coordinate with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and oversee electrical drawings for schematic design through construction documents in collaboration with internal teams.

• Apply design standards and code requirements for medium-voltage and utility systems.
• Contribute to a range of projects from offices to laboratories, healthcare facilities, and cultural venues.

• Prepare labor hour and fee estimates; review construction cost estimates; develop specifications as needed.
• Perform feasibility studies, load analyses, and future electrical needs; coordinate metering strategies and surveys.
• Support construction administration activities such as punch lists and RFIs.

LPA is seeking an Electrical Project Manager to join our integrated team of architects, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects and master planners. As a member of our MEP+L Systems Engineering team, you will work on a broad range of projects from office, education and recreation buildings to complex laboratories, health care facilities, and performing arts centers. What You Will Do

• Prepare and/or oversee complete electrical drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents in close collaboration with internal teams, architects, clients, and consultants.
• Lead the electrical design effort and coordinate with other disciplines to define requirements for equipment power, lighting, and special systems throughout the project scope.
• Apply a strong understanding of design standards and code requirements related to medium-voltage and utility systems.
• Contribute to projects of varying types, sizes, and complexities, including large-scale, technically complex projects and those incorporating emerging industry technologies.
• Develop creative and effective electrical design solutions using sound engineering judgment; evaluate alternative electrical distribution schemes based on cost, efficiency, space constraints, constructability, and performance.
• Prepare project labor hour and fee estimates; review construction cost estimates; write, edit, and develop project specifications as needed.
• Perform feasibility studies for existing facilities and electrical systems, including load analysis, capacity assessments, and future electrical requirements; coordinate metering strategies and field surveys as required.
• Support construction administration activities, including punch lists, RFIs, and submittal reviews.
• Design and coordinate special electrical systems such as photovoltaics, emergency and standby power systems, battery energy storage systems, fire pumps, and grounding; maintain a working knowledge of low-voltage and fire alarm systems.

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on the design of building power and lighting systems.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering.
• Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable energy codes, including common design sections and the ability to efficiently locate relevant tables and requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to perform value engineering, including evaluating design alternatives and developing high-level construction cost estimates to meet client or owner budget objectives.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical, building, and energy code requirements, as well as key client and owner design standards.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams.

Preferred

• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.

This position is eligible for an annual bonus. If you are hired at LPA, your base salary is based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, experience and/or project complexity.
