Job summary

LPA, Inc. in Irvine, CA, is seeking an Electrical Project Manager to join its MEP+L Systems Engineering team. You’ll work on a broad range of projects from offices to laboratories, leading electrical design and coordinating with architects, clients and consultants.

The role supports sustainable, high-performance design with impactful outcomes. Requirements include a PE license, 10+ years in electrical building systems, and strong NEC knowledge. AutoCAD/Revit skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering focused on building power and lighting systems.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of NEC and energy codes and how to apply them.
  • Ability to develop high-level construction cost estimates to meet budgets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for coordination with clients and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and oversee electrical drawings for schematic, design development, and construction documents with internal teams and clients.
  • Lead electrical design and coordinate with disciplines to define power, lighting, and special systems throughout a project.
  • Apply NEC and energy code requirements to project designs and standards.
  • Contribute to a range of projects from offices to labs and performance centers, including complex and high-tech systems.
  • Develop electrical design solutions considering cost, space, and constructability.
  • Prepare labor hour and fee estimates; review cost estimates and write project specifications as needed.
  • Perform feasibility studies, load analysis, and metering coordination for existing facilities.
  • Support construction administration including RFIs, punch lists, and submittal reviews.
  • Design and coordinate PV, standby power, battery storage, fire pumps, grounding, and related systems; know low-voltage and fire alarm systems.

LPA is seeking an Electrical Project Manager to join our integrated team of architects, engineers, interior designers, landscape architects and master planners. As a member of our MEP+L Systems Engineering team, you will work on a broad range of projects from office, education and recreation buildings to complex laboratories, health care facilities, and performing arts centers. What You Will Do
  • Prepare and/or oversee complete electrical drawings for schematic design, design development, and construction documents in close collaboration with internal teams, architects, clients, and consultants.
  • Lead the electrical design effort and coordinate with other disciplines to define requirements for equipment power, lighting, and special systems throughout the project scope.
  • Apply a strong understanding of design standards and code requirements related to medium-voltage and utility systems.
  • Contribute to projects of varying types, sizes, and complexities, including large-scale, technically complex projects and those incorporating emerging industry technologies.
  • Develop creative and effective electrical design solutions using sound engineering judgment; evaluate alternative electrical distribution schemes based on cost, efficiency, space constraints, constructability, and performance.
  • Prepare project labor hour and fee estimates; review construction cost estimates; write, edit, and develop project specifications as needed.
  • Perform feasibility studies for existing facilities and electrical systems, including load analysis, capacity assessments, and future electrical requirements; coordinate metering strategies and field surveys as required.
  • Support construction administration activities, including punch lists, RFIs, and submittal reviews.
  • Design and coordinate special electrical systems such as photovoltaics, emergency and standby power systems, battery energy storage systems, fire pumps, and grounding; maintain a working knowledge of low-voltage and fire alarm systems.

Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on the design of building power and lighting systems.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Electrical Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable energy codes, including common design sections and the ability to efficiently locate relevant tables and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform value engineering, including evaluating design alternatives and developing high-level construction cost estimates to meet client or owner budget objectives.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical, building, and energy code requirements, as well as key client and owner design standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
Preferred
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
