This is a

The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities across Maryland, including four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes. h3. Nature of Work The incumbent works in the Office of Engineering and Construction under the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)/Electrical Discipline. The Electrical Project Engineer manages, plans, and designs ITS and electrical work related to transportation facilities, structures, and equipment. The role involves large, complex engineering projects within a multidisciplinary environment involving in-house engineers and outside consultants. The work may include roadway lighting, tunnel lighting, sign lighting, power distribution systems, CCTV, DMS, RWIS, fiber optic networks, tunnel control systems (SCADA), traffic control systems, incident detection systems, and related tasks. Responsibilities include:

  • Manage electrical studies;
  • Serve as project manager for large Capital projects in ITS and Electrical Engineering;
  • Coordinate design and review of study reports and drawings;
  • Review construction documents such as as-built plans, RFIs, and submittals;
  • Review Scope of Work (SOW) for ITS/Electrical on-call tasks;
  • Coordinate with utility companies for power, energy, and communication requirements;
  • Collaborate with ITS/Electrical engineers and stakeholders, attending project meetings;
  • Prepare engineering cost and man-hour estimates;
  • Conduct field visits to facilities with consultants/contractors as needed.
  • This position reports to the ITS/Electrical Discipline Manager or higher-level engineering managers, depending on tasks. Work is performed in an office setting and in the field, including physical inspections of transportation facilities or job sites.

    The current vacancy is located in Baltimore, Maryland.

    h3. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
    Possession of an Engineer in Training (EIT) Certificate in Maryland, with evidence required at appointment.
    Experience: At least two years of engineering work acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers, involving analysis, design, evaluation, and inspection, including:
    - One year of planning and designing ITS and/or Electrical Engineering projects.

    Qualifying work must conform to the definition of "Practice Engineering" as per Maryland law, including services requiring education, training, and experience in engineering sciences, analysis, design, evaluation, inspection, investigation, planning, and design coordination. The practice does not include nontechnical management activities.
