Job summary

Eight Eleven Group is seeking a Project Engineer for a regional substation design program with Fortune 150 utility clients. The role covers delivery of detailed electrical design, protection and control system work across multiple substations in a hybrid on-site model.

You will guide internal staff and external engineers, ensuring drawings, specifications and BOMs meet standards while collaborating with clients to resolve complex issues.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 5-10 years’ electrical design engineering experience.
• Power system protection and relaying knowledge and experience required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and build client relationships.
• Strong organizational, prioritization and problem-solving capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Manually and electronically designs detailed drawings for substation projects including wiring diagrams and layout drawings.
• Evaluates engineering work to verify conformance to industry codes and standards.
• Develops substation engineering physical design packages.
• Creates detailed drawings and documents such as one lines, general arrangement plans, elevation plans, conduit plans, and material lists.
• Assesses complex technical issues and recommends appropriate actions or programs.
• Participates in technical societies/committees to stay current on new technologies.
• Participates in department/project planning and performance monitoring.

$60/hr-$80/hr.

The Substation Engineering team at our Fortune 150 utility clients is executing a regional project plan focused on the execution of design and engineering deliverables for substation rebuilds, enhancements, retirements. The project involves combining system performance program work at all transmission and distribution substations. The program is focused on driving the execution of design and engineering deliverables specific for each substation. This multifaceted program has numerous workstreams and is focused on enhancing substation performance, protection and control system performance and distribution system performance.

The Project Engineer will be the facilitator in resolving complex issues in several technical areas requiring advance knowledge and experience. The successful candidate will perform engineering responsibilities providing guidance and direction to both internal staff and external consulting engineers and designers.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• 5-10 years’ electrical design engineering experience.
• Power system protection and relaying knowledge and experience required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office products required (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance but knows when to get others involved.

Your Responsibilities Include:

• Manually and electronically designs detailed drawings, such as wiring diagrams, layout drawings, and mechanical systems for portions of large and/or complex substation projects.
• Evaluates engineering work and supporting documents to verify conformance to industry codes and company specifications and standards.
• Development of substation engineering physical design packages
• Create and modify the following detailed drawings and documents on substation projects: construction/operating one lines, general arrangement plans, elevation plans, conduit plans, steel details, foundation details, bill of materials, etc.
• Evaluates complex technical issues that require highly specialized knowledge in very specific areas and recommends actions or programs for their resolution which may necessitate the review/evaluation of engineering design documents.
• Participates in technical and industry societies and committees to enhance knowledge of new technologies or issues in area of company interest.
• Participates in department/project management, planning, and monitor performance for the accomplishment of committed results.
