Job summary

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects. You will provide engineering solutions and oversight of electrical systems for buildings, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet client expectations.

You will train and mentor staff, manage budgets, and stay current with industry trends and best practices.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering required.
  • PE license preferred.
  • 2+ years in building design consulting; 4+ preferred.
  • Proficient with design techniques, tools, and specs.
  • Strong knowledge of circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics for buildings.
  • Proficient with MS Office; familiarity with AutoCAD/Revit is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design for electrical systems and prepare detailed designs and calculations.
  • Interact with clients to gather requirements and communicate technical details.
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to hit deadlines.
  • Document design decisions and monitor project progress and fees.
  • Analyze problems and suggest solutions with senior engineers.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical systems and specs.

Job description

IMEG is hiring an Electrical Project Engineer to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for low to moderate complexity projects while collaborating with senior staff on larger, high complexity work. You'll provide engineering solutions and advice to clients to support positive outcomes through engineering analysis, design, and implementation oversight of electrical systems for buildings. You'll also work within the project’s monetary budget while training, mentoring, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information effectively while building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project design progress related to percent complete and fee expended.
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose solutions in collaboration with senior engineers and consultants.
  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications.
  • Implement IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs meet IMEG quality standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering, contributing to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of engineering work, identifying and mitigating potential safety risks associated with electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including other engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.
  • Identify potential project problems and seek advice from the Project Manager.
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phase.
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
  • 2 years of experience minimum required, 4 preferred, in the building design consulting industry.
  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to electrical systems design for buildings.
  • Proficient with industry standard engineering software and tools including lighting photometric calculation software such as AGI, Elum Tools, Visual Lighting, or other; power system analysis and design software such as SKM/PTW, Easy Power, or other; and energy compliance software such as ComCheck.
  • Proficient with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu.
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards.
  • Proficient with the use of reference material resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and Facility Guideline Institution (FGI).
  • Knowledge of Master Specification editing and software such as eSPECS, BIM software, and CTC Revit Add In Tools; Proficiency of Smart Engineering Design Assist (SET) Tools within Revit for electrical calculations, coordination, properties, etc.
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.
