Electrical Project Engineer

This position reports to: Engineering Manager

Your role and responsibilities

Electrical Project Engineer positions at ABB Inc. (Auburn Hills, MI) involve designing Low Voltage electrical systems that meet project requirements. Responsibilities include creating electrical schematics, selecting components, and performing calculations according to specifications. You will play a key role within a global team on design tasks, conduct design reviews to ensure standards are followed, and provide technical guidance on electrical engineering principles, codes, and standards. Collaboration with the supply chain is essential, including reviewing vendor documentation and preparing RFQs for components and manufacturing. The role also involves onsite installation and commissioning, developing PLC programs for equipment control, and creating safety configurations for robotic systems. Ensuring the safety of electrical and automation systems through risk assessments to meet safety standards is also required.

Qualifications for the role
  • Bachelor's or foreign equivalent degree in electronic engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, with 5 years of experience in electrical design software such as AutoCAD or EPLAN. Alternatively, a master's or foreign degree in the same fields with 3 years of experience is acceptable.
  • 5 years of experience complying with electrical codes, standards, and regulations including UL508A, NFPA79, and NEC.
  • Experience programming PLCs such as Siemens TIA and Rockwell Studio 5000.
  • Proficiency with communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, EtherCAT, Modbus, and RS232/485.

This position reports to the Auburn Hills, MI office. Telecommuting is permitted per company policy, but candidates must reside within commuting distance of the office. Experience can be acquired concurrently with the educational requirements.
