Job description

Hiring for an Electrical Production Engineer in West Hartford, CT
Job Description

This role serves as a key technical resource for complex electronic products that are already in production and in service, with a strong focus on test failures, non-conformance review, and product sustainment. You will apply your electrical engineering expertise, circuit analysis skills, and deep understanding of electronic components to determine why products fail and to recommend appropriate corrective actions. The position emphasizes material review, root cause analysis, engineering changes, and reliability improvements, while collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, suppliers, and customers.

Responsibilities
  • Review and disposition non‑conforming electronic materials and test failures through the Material Review Board process.
  • Recommend appropriate technical actions for non‑conforming products, including retest, repair, rework, acceptance, or scrap.
  • Coordinate MRB dispositions with Quality Engineering to obtain final approval.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, circuit diagrams, engineering drawings, and PCBA documentation to support failure analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and isolate electrical and electronic failures down to the component level.
  • Conduct root cause investigations for anomalous units and recurring failures, documenting findings and recommendations.
  • Address electronic component obsolescence and product sustainment issues to ensure long‑term supportability.
  • Initiate and process engineering changes to improve product reliability, performance, manufacturability, and sustainment.
  • Resolve supplier technical issues that affect product quality, delivery, reliability, or performance.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly/test, supply chain, quality, suppliers, and MRO service centers with technical guidance.
  • Coordinate technical support for assigned aircraft programs and in‑service electronic products.
  • Identify product performance trends and initiate Product Condition Reports when appropriate.
  • Monitor product reliability metrics and support MTBF trend reporting and analysis.
  • Support technical cost estimates and responses to requests for quotation involving design changes, repairs, upgrades, and obsolescence solutions.
  • Prepare and present technical information, including component specifications, test plans, test reports, and related technical documentation, to internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
  • Lead or provide technical oversight for validation, qualification, and design‑assurance testing activities.
  • Identify and drive resolution of issues that affect product integrity and safety.
  • Participate in new product design and development activities to ensure producibility, reliability, and sustainment considerations are addressed.
  • Support continuous improvement, productivity initiatives, and lean manufacturing activities within the production environment.
  • Train and mentor less experienced engineers and technical colleagues, sharing best practices and product knowledge.
  • Manage multiple priorities and occasional critical production deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Collaborate frequently with cross‑functional stakeholders, including engineering, manufacturing, assembly/test, quality, supply chain, customers, suppliers, and MRO organizations, to solve complex technical problems.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of five years of relevant electrical or electronics engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic components, circuitry, analog circuits, and digital circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, electronic schematics, PCBA files, and circuit documentation.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting electronic products and isolating failures to the component level.
  • Experience diagnosing root causes of electrical test failures in a production or service environment.
  • Experience reviewing or dispositioning non‑conforming material, preferably through MRB processes.
  • Proficiency in schematic and circuit interpretation for complex electronic assemblies.
  • Hands‑on experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis of electronic systems.
  • Experience with engineering changes and product sustainment activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Technical writing experience, including preparation of specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
  • Experience preparing and delivering technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction while collaborating effectively in a cross‑functional team.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced production environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools for analysis, documentation, and presentations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with safety‑critical or flight‑critical electronic components is preferred.
  • Background in aerospace electronics or engine‑control systems is preferred.
  • Project management experience, including coordinating technical activities and schedules, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with JTAG for testing and debugging electronic boards is preferred.
  • Experience with CAN protocol for communication and diagnostics is preferred.
  • Experience using LabVIEW for test automation, data acquisition, or analysis is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with customers, suppliers, engineers, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, and leadership.
