Job summary

HDR is seeking an Electrical Principal in New Jersey to lead electrical design efforts across multidisciplinary teams. You will establish client relations, lead on projects, and ensure code compliance during schematic, design development, and construction documentation phases.

You will coordinate workload, manage project financials, and mentor junior staff while collaborating with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality electrical systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in electrical design of buildings (lighting/power/systems).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license recognized by licensing board.
  • Extensive knowledge of life safety systems and building management systems.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the work of Electrical Engineers with a multidiscipline team.
  • Lead electrical scope on projects and participate in client meetings.
  • Perform code compliance reviews for various governing agencies.
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions on site with PM and Project Architect.
  • Coordinate workload to meet project schedules and budgets.
  • Mentor other electrical engineering staff and collaborate with regional controller.

In the role of Electrical Principal we'll count on you to:

  • Coordinate the work of Electrical Engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
  • Establish client relations, and participate in the marketing, design and production meetings with regard to electrical systems
  • Assume the electrical lead on many projects
  • Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines
  • Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager and Regional Controller for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Direct the activities of other electrical engineering professionals, and act as a mentor to other staff members as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • 5+ years previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired
  • 15+ years of relevant work experience
  • Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.

  • Extensive knowledge of building electrical power, lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software
