TJW Engineering, a traffic engineering and transportation planning consulting firm with a growing lighting design group, is seeking a talented engineer to join our Boise, Idaho office. This is an excellent opportunity to build a rewarding career in traffic engineering and lighting design within a small, supportive, and collaborative consulting environment.

Responsibilities:

As an engineer at TJW Engineering, you will collaborate with a dedicated team of professionals to design a variety of traffic engineering and lighting plans and designs. Our firm's collaborative and supportive atmosphere promotes professional growth and allows individuals to play a pivotal role in shaping the transportation environment. Under the guidance of registered Civil Engineers, Traffic Engineers, and Professional Transportation Planners, you will work on various tasks and projects, including but not limited to:

• Roadway Lighting
• Photometric Analysis
• Traffic Signal Design
• Fiber Optic Design
• Signing and Striping Design
• Traffic Control Plan Design
• Pedestrian and Bicycle Design
• Roundabout Design
• Traffic Signal Operations
• Vehicle Path Analysis

In this position at TJW Engineering, you will embark on a dynamic developmental journey, marked by expanding responsibilities that cater to the growth of your skills and expertise. Initially, you will work closely with project managers and senior engineers actively contributing to the design process on a range of traffic engineering and lighting concepts and designs. Your responsibilities will encompass proficient utilization of AutoCAD, performing site visits, and adherence to industry standards to ensure comprehensive and constructible projects.

As your experience deepens, you will progressively assume more independent design responsibilities. This will include making more complex design decisions, representing TJW Engineering in client meetings, engaging directly with agency personnel, and taking on the vital roles of mentorship and training for our junior team members. Ultimately, you will progress to overseeing small projects independently and pave the way for increased responsibilities within the company.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

• 1–4 years of relevant experience in traffic engineering, roadway lighting, or related design fields.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Willingness to conduct site visits and assist in field investigations as needed.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to interact with team members, clients, and agency staff.
• Interest in learning and growing in both technical and project management capacities.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or PE license (or ability to obtain) is a plus.
• Familiarity with photometric analysis tools (e.g., AGi32 or Visual Lighting Software).
• Basic understanding of traffic engineering principles, including traffic signal design, signing and striping, and traffic control plans.
• Knowledge of industry standards and guidelines, such as IES, AASHTO, and MUTCD
