Job summary

Brunel in Rhode Island seeks an Onshore Senior Authorised Person to support commissioning and operation of high-voltage electrical systems. The role ensures safe, compliant HV/MV/LV operations, providing technical leadership and safety management across project activities.

The Senior SAP will lead HV commissioning programs, scrutinize switching schedules, review RAMS, and mentor personnel to maintain high safety standards and performance in onshore substations and grid connections.

Qualifications

• Extensive onshore HV/substation operation experience.
• Strong background in HV switching, isolation procedures and network operations.
• Experience reviewing RAMS and safety documentation.
• Familiarity with electrical safety management frameworks and standards.
• Knowledge of country-specific electrical regulations; offshore wind experience is a plus.
• Ability to lead commissioning programs and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Onshore Senior Authorised Person (SAP) to support the commissioning, operation, and integration of high-voltage electrical systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and compliant HV/MV/LV operations, providing technical leadership, and overseeing electrical safety management across project activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as Senior Authorised Person for high-voltage operations and electrical safety.
• Ensure compliance with electrical safety rules and safe systems of work.
• Supervise and coordinate HV/MV/LV operational and commissioning activities.
• Review and approve RAMS, method statements, switching schedules, and safety documentation.
• Lead electrical safety coordination and provide technical guidance on HV installations.
• Oversee the safe commissioning of substations, grid connections, and associated plant and equipment.
• Coordinate switching activities and isolation planning for operational and commissioning work.
• Monitor and maintain the safety, security, and integrity of electrical networks.
• Support effective communication and coordination between project stakeholders.
• Manage outage activities and network control in collaboration with control engineers.
• Conduct site inspections, audits, and safety reviews related to electrical operations.
• Deliver training, mentoring, and competency development for Authorised Persons and operational personnel.
• Participate in technical reviews, audits, assessments, and project planning activities.
• Provide technical input during project design, commissioning, and operational phases.

Key Duties

• Manage and coordinate HV/MV/LV commissioning programs.
• Prepare, review, and authorize high-voltage switching schedules.
• Issue and control electrical safety documentation.
• Update and maintain electrical schematics and operational documentation.
• Attend commissioning meetings and coordinate with network operators and relevant stakeholders.
• Support authorization and assessment processes for new personnel.
• Contribute to commissioning strategies, procedures, and quality plans.
• Review high-voltage scopes of work and ensure adherence to applicable standards.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive operational and commissioning experience within high-voltage electrical systems.
• Strong electrical engineering background with qualifications relevant to the authorization scope.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience working with onshore substation systems.
• Demonstrable experience operating within electrical safety management frameworks.
• Knowledge of high-voltage switching, isolation procedures, and network operations.
• Experience coordinating commissioning activities on large-scale infrastructure or energy projects.
• Familiarity with country-specific electrical standards and regulations.
• Offshore wind or offshore transmission experience is advantageous.

Certifications

• Relevant electrical authorization and qualification for high-voltage operations.
• HUET certification with CA-EBS (where applicable) preferred.
