Base pay range

$35.37/hr - $59.07/hr

Minimum Qualifications of Education and Experience

Associate’s degree from an accredited college in electrical repair and maintenance or closely related field and four (4) years of experience maintenance and repair of industrial electrical systems in a related facility as listed in the work functions.

OR

A combination of education and experience equivalent to six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in a similar position as listed in the work functions.

Regular and reliable attendance is a necessary component of job/position. Individuals required to use County vehicles and equipment must have a valid driver’s license and be free of any major traffic violations for the last three (3) years.

Required Special Qualifications (during employment):

Completion of a MPCA Waste Combustor Operator coarse within six (6) months of employment, offered by Olmsted County.

Desirable Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Minnesota Power Limited Technician License.

Possession of a valid Minnesota Electrician license.

Background in resource recovery.

Nature of Work

Under general supervision, supports the electrical and mechanical needs of the maintenance, operations, and engineering teams within the Olmsted Waste-to-Energy Facility (OWEF) and Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). Works to trouble shoot repairs, update schematics, and support project preparation. Researches new equipment. Creates weekly and monthly reports. Trains staff on electrical and mechanical tasks as needed. Supports a diverse, respectful, and inclusive workplace.

Examples of Work

  • Performs preventative and reactive maintenance associated with plant electrical equipment, VFD’s, motors, PLC’s, starters, breakers, and control systems on heavy stationary boilers, electrical generation/transmission equipment, and related auxiliary support systems.
  • Maintains detailed records of equipment. Prepares records and reports to support ongoing maintenance and operational needs.
  • Responsible for achieving PLC and VFD programming and backups.
  • Assists contractors in the performance of plant electrical maintenance. Communications design and operational needs to staff and outside vendors.
  • Supports the installation and modification of plant electrical systems.
  • Assists with the fabrication of custom control subsystems for plant equipment and auxiliary systems.
  • Supports site-specific electrical and technical training for Environmental Resources staff.
  • Establishes standards for preforming software programming
  • Investigates and reports accidents.
  • Assists in maintaining spare parts and materials inventory.
  • Assists in the maintenance and repair of the facility’s instrument and control systems.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  • Knowledge of PLC and VFD programing, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the generation of steam and electric power.
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools and standards involved in performing maintenance on electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws governing electrical safety compliance.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices involved in operating and maintaining electrical power generation and transmission equipment, district energy systems, chillers, absorbers, air pollution control equipment and water supply systems.
  • Knowledge of the methods, tools and functioning involved in performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Knowledge of the precautions necessary to work safely in and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of the standards, materials, and methods of the mechanical and electrical trades.
  • Skill in the use of computers and technology including preventive maintenance management systems.
  • Skill in the use of instrument and control tools and equipment.
  • Skill in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues.
  • Ability to understand written and verbal instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical plans, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
