Job summary

KLA in Milpitas, CA is seeking a Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) – Electrical Systems to lead electrical and electromechanical subsystems across the product lifecycle, ensuring reliable production support and successful product launches.

You will drive ECOs, qualify components, and collaborate with Design, Materials, Suppliers, Quality, and Manufacturing to improve quality, reliability, and efficiency while delivering exceptional results for our customers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with PCB design, manufacturing, and qualification.
  • Experience developing electrical subsystem and system-level test plans.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and electrical design tools (e.g., OrCAD or equivalent).
  • Hands-on experience using electrical test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Materials, Design Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support cost reduction, transfers, and operational engineering.
  • Evaluate, select, and qualify replacement electrical components for EOL and obsolescence management.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to approve component substitutions through waiver processes.
  • Develop qualification plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for new components and assemblies.
  • Perform testing and qualification to ensure performance and reliability requirements.
  • Support incoming material quality improvement initiatives with suppliers to refine inspection criteria.
  • Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and training materials.
  • Solve complex electrical issues and provide corrective actions to production and service teams.
  • Coordinate ECOs, BOM updates, and test data within quality systems.
  • Present updates and risks during project evaluations and meetings.

Job Description / Preferred Qualifications

The Manufacturing Design Engineer (MDE) – Electrical Systems plays a critical role in delivering high-quality, reliable products throughout the entire product lifecycle! This position provides engineering leadership for electrical, electronic, and electromechanical subsystems, ensuring seamless production support, successful product launches, and continuous improvement across manufacturing operations.

In this role, we drive engineering change implementation, qualify new and replacement components, support new product introductions, and enhance manufacturing processes to improve quality, reliability, and efficiency. Success comes through close collaboration with Design Engineering, Materials, Suppliers, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to solve complex challenges, accelerate innovation, and deliver exceptional results for our customers!

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with Materials, Design Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support product cost reduction initiatives, manufacturing transfers, and operational engineering activities.
  • Evaluate, select, and qualify replacement electrical, electronic, and electromechanical (EEE) components for End-of-Life (EOL) and obsolescence management.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal stakeholders to approve component substitutions through waiver and deviation processes.
  • Develop qualification plans, test procedures, and acceptance criteria for new and replacement components and assemblies.
  • Perform testing and qualification of electrical components, subsystems, and assemblies to ensure compliance with performance and reliability requirements.
  • Support incoming material quality improvement initiatives by working with suppliers to establish and refine inspection and acceptance criteria.
  • Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, test procedures, and technician training materials.
  • Solve sophisticated electrical and electromechanical issues and provide clear corrective actions to production and service teams.
  • Collaborate within a multi-functional environment supporting electrical subsystems in a precision manufacturing setting.
  • Handle Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), Bill of Material (BOM) updates, and test data within company quality and configuration management systems.
  • Coordinate engineering activities associated with new product introductions and product releases.
  • Present technical updates, project status, risks, and recommendations during project evaluations and management meetings.
  • Support domestic and international travel as the need arises to assist suppliers, manufacturing sites, and qualification activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Experience with PCB design, manufacturing, and qualification.
  • Experience developing and implementing electrical subsystem and system-level test plans.
  • Proficiency with schematic capture and electrical design tools (e.g., OrCAD or equivalent).
  • Hands‑on experience using electrical test and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong root‑cause analysis, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and design‑for‑manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multi‑functional teams.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with LabVIEW or test automation tools.
  • Experience supporting component obsolescence and lifecycle management.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and global manufacturing teams.
Minimum Qualifications

5 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 1 years and a Master’s degree; or equivalent work experience.

Base Pay Range: $83,400.00 - $141,800.00 Annually

Primary Location: USA-CA-Milpitas-KLA
