This position involves performing basic electrical maintenance duties, including installing, modifying, and maintaining electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, equipment, and motors to ensure efficient operation across various city departments, excluding Traffic Engineering. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and replacing damaged or malfunctioning electrical components, working on low-voltage equipment (<600 volts), and possibly supervising or guiding new workers on safety and work procedures.
Knowledge of: Basic arithmetic, electrical test equipment, operation of electrical motors, safety precautions, first aid, electrical grounding, hardware, trade language, schematics, circuits, protective devices, wiring methods.
Skills in: Safe hardware installation, use of electrical testing tools, wiring, and driving trucks or similar vehicles.
Abilities to: Calculate resistance, interpret schematics, understand manuals, follow instructions, demonstrate aptitude.
Open: Two years of full-time paid experience in electrical repair/maintenance or completion of a two-year electrical apprenticeship, plus a trade school program in electrical or electronic repair, or 12 college credits in electrical maintenance.
Valid Driver's License, ability to work in confined spaces, climb heights, lift heavy objects, distinguish colors, perform precise work, and work irregular shifts or respond to emergencies.
