Job summary

The City of Venice Florida seeks an Electrical/Maintenance Technician II to maintain and repair city-wide electrical systems, facilities, and safety systems. This Level II role builds on Level I duties and includes HVAC monitoring and automated fire/security systems oversight.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, performing street-light and traffic-control maintenance, and ensuring tools and equipment are safe. A valid Florida CDL with Air Brakes is required for Level II.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent with three (3) years general maintenance and electrical experience.
• High school graduate or equivalent with five (5) years general maintenance and electrical experience. Must possess a valid Florida class "B" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Air Brakes endorsement and be able to obtain in-state CDL within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Maintains city-wide electrical service including street lights and traffic control systems.
• Reads and interprets blueprints or drawings pertaining to assigned projects.
• Performs maintenance for all City facilities including electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting.
• Monitors and maintains HVAC control systems and equipment (Level II).
• Assesses automated fire and security control systems.

Job description

Starting salary to commence at $50,865 - $54,488 except in extenuating circumstances.

General Statement of Job

Provides electrical service and maintenance for all City facilities.

City Expectations

Certain essential city services are required to be maintained in any civil emergency. Depending upon the type of emergency, any and all employees may be activated as essential employees in the event of an emergency.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions

1. Maintains and performs City wide electrical service including street lights and traffic control systems.


2. Performs maintenance for all City facilities including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting.


3. Reads and interprets blueprints or drawings pertaining to assigned projects.
   
   
   
   • a.Accurately and legibly completes and maintains work orders and other required documentation.
   
   
   • b. Safely and efficiently drives and operates city vehicles as required. Transports supplies, tools, or other material to and from job site.
   
   
   
   

Level II (Grade 128)

• In addition to all functions performed at Level I, a Electrical/Maintenance Technician II:


• a. Monitors and maintains computerized HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) control systems and equipment.


• b. Responsible for assessing all city facilities’ automated fire and security control systems.

Responsibilities

Responsible for the timely and accurate completion of work assignments following established job standards and safety practices. Maintains all tools and equipment in safe and working conditions at all times. Responsible in work to the Maintenance Foreman or designee.

Minimum Education and Training

Level I (Grade 126)

High school graduate or equivalent with three (3) years general maintenance and electrical experience.

Level II (Grade 128)

High school graduate or equivalent with five (5) years general maintenance and electrical experience. Must possess a valid Florida class \"B\" Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with Air Brakes endorsement and free of any serious violations or ability to obtain an instate CDL license within thirty (30) days from date of hire.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Skill Requirements

Ability to repair, analyze and problem solve any assignment. Knowledge of OSHA and National Electrical Code requirements. Competent in facilities maintenance. Ability to work independently of direct supervision and capable of sustaining regular and predictable attendance. Ability to communicate effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions, blueprints and drawings. Awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions and capable of safely operating motorized/hand tools or equipment used to complete tasks. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather and for prolonged periods of time. Must have good eyesight and hearing with or without aides. Must possess excellent hand and eye coordination. Reasonable accommodation will be considered for individuals with physical disabilities.

Working Conditions

Level I (Grade 126)

Work is performed either indoors or outdoors in all kinds of weather. May also work in roadways where vehicle traffic hazards exist.

Level II (Grade 128)

In addition, the Electrical/Maintenance Technician Level II must be available for emergencies, which can extend the normal work period if required. May be provided a city issued cellular phone for emergency response.

Other
