Smith Industries is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our Maintenance team. This is a hands‑on industrial maintenance position responsible for keeping our fabrication equipment and electrical systems operating safely and reliably. The ideal candidate is a strong electrical troubleshooter who is comfortable working with industrial equipment, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and 3‑phase power systems. You will work closely with Production and other maintenance personnel to troubleshoot equipment failures, perform preventive maintenance, complete electrical installations, and minimize production downtime.
What You Will Do
  • Diagnose and repair electrical issues on industrial production equipment, including welding machines, overhead cranes and hoists, cutting tables, compressors, and paint/blast booth systems.
  • Troubleshoot motors, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, relays, contactors, and low‑voltage control circuits.
  • Test and repair wiring, breakers, disconnects, transformers, electrical panels, and related components.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and safely restore equipment to service as quickly as possible.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and electrical inspections.
  • Identify potential electrical failures before they result in unplanned downtime.
  • Install circuits, panels, motors, conduit, wiring, cable, and equipment connections.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new fabrication equipment, cranes, and shop infrastructure.
  • Read and troubleshoot from electrical schematics, one‑line diagrams, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc‑flash, OSHA, NEC, and company safety requirements.
  • Coordinate repairs with Production and other maintenance personnel to minimize disruption to operations.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
  • Assist with maintaining electrical parts, tools, and spare‑parts inventory.
  • Participate in occasional evening, weekend, or emergency equipment repairs as needed.
What We Are Looking For
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3+ years of industrial or commercial electrical maintenance experience preferred.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or similar industrial environment strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of 3‑phase power, motor controls, VFDs, and PLCs.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with NEC requirements and OSHA electrical safety practices, including LOTO and arc‑flash requirements.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot equipment involving both electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Electrical trade school, apprenticeship, or Journeyman Electrician license is a plus.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in an active fabrication shop and requires regular standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, and working in tight or elevated spaces. The position may require lifting up to 50 pounds and working around industrial equipment, noise, heat, dust, and moving machinery.
Why Join Smith Industries?
This is an opportunity for an experienced industrial electrical technician to take ownership of meaningful equipment troubleshooting and maintenance in a fast‑paced fabrication environment. If you enjoy solving problems, working hands‑on with industrial equipment, and being the person the team can count on when equipment goes down, we would like to hear from you.
