Job summary

Charter Manufacturing seeks an Industrial Electrician to join the Maintenance team and ensure safe, reliable plant operation. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical equipment, control systems, and related machinery, and collaborate across departments to uphold safety and efficiency.

The role requires strong knowledge of electronics, PLCs, VFDs, and electrical drawings, with a commitment to proactive maintenance and teamwork in a heavy manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three or more years of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electronics, AC/DC theory, VFDs, PLCs, ladder logic, and related control systems.
  • Ability to read schematics and use manuals for installs and repairs.
  • Commitment to safe work practices and LOTO procedures.

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant electrical systems and equipment.
  • Analyze test results and operator feedback to resolve issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, calibrations, and repairs.
  • Maintain motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and related control systems.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Maintenance Technicians on requests and needs.
  • Keep parts inventory accuracy and document work orders.
  • Follow safety policies and Environmental, Quality, and Safety procedures.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Industrial Electrician is a key member of the Maintenance team and contributes directly to the safe and reliable operation of the facility. This position supports a strong safety culture, promotes continuous improvement, and works collaboratively with team members across the plant.

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical equipment, control systems, and related plant machinery. Additional duties may be assigned based on operational needs.

WORK SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT
  • Twelve-hour shifts 6pm-6am.
  • 5-2-2-5 rotating schedule.
  • Must be able to work in various areas of the plant that may include dirt, grease, heat, cold, noise, and work at extreme heights.
  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, or holidays based on operational needs.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant equipment and electrical systems.
  • Analyze test results, machine error messages, equipment performance, and information provided by operators to identify and resolve equipment issues.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, calibrations, installations, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Maintain and support industrial electrical equipment, motor controls, variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, and related control systems.
  • Partner with Mechanical Maintenance Technicians to respond to internal customer requests and equipment needs.
  • Help maintain the accuracy of the parts inventory system.
  • Perform additional plant and maintenance duties as directed by the supervisor.
  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and work rules.
  • Comply with Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System procedures.
  • Meet the essential requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, as outlined in the job description.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three or more years of industrial electrical maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electronics, AC/DC theory, power transmission, test instruments, instrumentation, variable frequency drives, programmable logic controllers, ladder logic, relay logic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motor controls, and electrical construction.
  • Ability to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a wide variety of industrial equipment using schematic diagrams, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, fall protection, confined-space procedures, and mobile-equipment operation.
  • Ability to safely and professionally operate equipment such as forklifts, overhead traveling cranes, and aerial lift platforms.
  • Demonstrated understanding of good housekeeping practices and 5S principles.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
  • Strong mathematical, communication, reading, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and provide instructions.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to receive and close work orders, use email, and perform basic Microsoft Office functions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program, Journeyman Electrician certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • Previous steel industry or heavy manufacturing experience.
  • Welding and light fabrication experience.
  • Experience with industrial communication networks, including Profibus, Profinet, and Ethernet.
  • Experience with proportional-integral-derivative control loops and combustion-control systems.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and components.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working in a team-based maintenance environment.
  • Previous safety awareness training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, and lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit, balance, push, pull, carry, climb, reach more than 15 inches from the body, reach above shoulder level, perform fine-motor tasks, use forceful motions, and lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Minimally required to use foot controls, work below waist level, and lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, as detailed in the Job Analysis Database.
