Job summary

City of Santa Fe Springs is seeking an experienced Electrical Maintenance Supervisor to oversee maintenance, repair, and reliable operation of electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control, and power distribution systems at the wastewater treatment facility.

You will supervise the Electrical Maintenance staff, coordinate maintenance activities, and ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the plant and lift stations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of Vocational/Technical training in Industrial Electricity, Electrical, Electronic Engineering Technology, or related field required.

Description

Under general supervision, performs advanced technical work overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliable operation of electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control, and power distribution systems. Supervises the Electrical Maintenance staff and coordinated maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the wastewater treatment plant, retention treatment basins (RTBs), lift stations.

Under general supervision, performs advanced technical work overseeing the maintenance, repair, and reliable operation of electrical, electronic, instrumentation and control, and power distribution systems. Supervises the Electrical Maintenance staff and coordinated maintenance activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the wastewater treatment plant, retention treatment basins (RTBs), lift stations.

Major Duties
  • Supervise and perform the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of plant electrical and electronic equipment.
  • Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate work of electrical maintenance team by assigning daily work, providing training and technical guidance, administering discipline, and inspecting completed work to ensure quality and compliance with safety standards.
  • Provides technical guidance, training, and support to electrical maintenance personnel.
  • Desing, review, recommend, and implement electrical system modifications, wiring upgrades, and process improvements.
  • Research and procure replacement parts, and maintain and adequate inventory of electrical, electronic, and pneumatic spare parts.
  • Provides budget input to administration personnel, for all electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate with the Instrumentation & Controls Systems Administrator to support the implementation, maintenance, and upgrade of plant hardware and software systems.
  • Monitors and controls expenditures to prevent unnecessary or inefficient spending, while planning, assigning, and supervising work to maximize efficiency and minimize waste of time, materials, and resources, and ensuring compliance with policies related to ethical conduct, use of public resources, and workplace accountability.
  • Adhere to all utility security policies and procedures, including those outlined in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and Risk and Resilience Assessment (RRA) documentation, to ensure the ongoing security and resilience of the water system's infrastructure, operations, and water quality.
  • Immediately report any actual or potential physical or cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, or incidents to the designated utility security point of contact or supervisor.
  • Assists in the development, updating and implementation of the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and Risk and Resilience Assessment (RRA) documentation
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of Vocational/Technical training in Industrial Electricity, Electrical, Electronic Engineering Technology, or related field required.
Experience
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience inspecting, testing, repairing, and upgrading power systems and automated machinery in an industrial setting.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Possession and maintenance of a State of Michigan Electrical Journeyperson License required.
  • Possession and maintenance of a State of Michigan driver’s license required.
Knowledge of
  • National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and electrical safety practices.
  • Wastewater treatment processes as they relate to electrical and control systems.
  • Design, installation, maintenance and repair of industrial electrical systems, including medium-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Programmable logic controllers (PLCs), SCADA systems, computerized maintenance systems and related computer applications.
  • Operation and maintenance of gas-fired steam boilers, condensate systems, gas and electrical furnaces, and hot water heating systems.
Skill in
  • Troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and installing complex electrical, electronic, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Applying mechanical aptitude to diagnose and resolve equipment and system malfunctions.
Ability to
  • Interpret and work from electrical prints, control circuits and electronic schematic diagrams
  • Supervise, train, coach, and evaluate electrical and mechanical maintenance personnel.
  • Assess situations and solve problems, and work effectively under stress, in emergency situations, within deadlines, and changes in work priorities.
