Electrical Lineworker Technology Instructor – Xcel Energy

Overview

Electrical Line Worker Technology Instructor teaches theoretical and practical skills relevant to all phases of power line construction and maintenance, preparing students for apprenticeships with utility providers. Instructors guide students in the operation of vehicles such as digger derricks and bucket trucks. Coursework includes electrical math, national electrical safety codes, construction of overhead and underground distribution systems, conductor applications, over‑voltage and over‑current protection, guying and pole grounding. This full‑time position starts in the fall semester of 2025 at Xcel Energy’s Riverside and Hugo training centers in Northeast Minneapolis. The position becomes unlimited upon completion of six semesters of required probationary status.

Salary and Benefits

Salary range up to $77,911. Full‑time faculty work a 171‑day contract during a nine‑month academic year (mid‑August to mid‑May). Benefits include medical and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, pre‑tax benefits, time‑off benefits, health and wellness programs, and tuition waivers.

Responsibilities

• Comprehensive college‑level instructional planning, including industry standard line work curriculum development.
• Teaching and facilitating student learning based on practical and theoretical concepts relevant to the industry.

• Explaining industry pathways and work environments to students.
• Assessing student performance at course and departmental levels.
• Contributing to student assessments at the college general education level.
• Maintaining professional skills and credentials.
• Participating in department meetings, activities and collegewide committees.

Qualifications

• Diploma in electrical line work.
• Four full‑time (or equivalent) years of verified related paid work experience in electrical line work.
• One year of this work experience within the five years immediately preceding application (waived if two years of full‑time postsecondary teaching experience in the field within last five years).
• Capable of developing and teaching college‑level curriculum.
